    Colt Warranty, Not Happy

On 11 Feb I sent my Colt 380 Gov Mod to Colt because the safety was not staying in safe mode and the rear sight had worked lose again.
I know this is older gun and per Colt's web site the Limited Lifetime Warranty only covers firearms made after 1996. I was hoping that Colt would step up and say "not a problem, we will fix it for free".
    They did. Kinda.
Shipping cost to Colt with insurance $58
    Part/Labor $55
    Shipping to me $30
    Total cost to me $143
I know the little Colt 380s are bringing good money today. If it had depriciated at all from purchase price new it would not be worth repairing.
I just got the Product Service Repair Order in on 20 Feb, this was Saturday so I have not clled Colt yet to give them the go ahead with repair. Of course I will tell them to go ahead and complete repairs because the cost is only an additional $55, everything else is shipping.
    1. Any words of wisdom that I can pass on to Colt monday when I call them? I am disappointed about paying the $55 parts/labor and $30 shipping back to me.
    2. Am I just being petty?
    3. My next purchase was probably going to be a Colt or Springfield. Which do you think I am leaning towards?

A local gunsmith would have been the answer.

Ditto. If you have to pay shipping, even if the parts are covered under warranty, it's often cheaper to pay the whole thing to a local gunsmith.

Not sure there's anything you can say to them or hold against them. If that gun didn't have a lifetime warranty, that's the way it is.

I have only had to deal with one MFGs. customer service and it was kel-tec (the slide wouldn't lock back after last round. they sent me a new mag follower NO CHARGE no questions) ...............i am spoiled now. I have heard Ruger is great too but I have never had any trouble with my Rugers.
You may not like guns. You may choose not to own one. That is your right.
You might not believe in God. That is your choice.
However, if someone breaks into your home at 3AM the first two things you are going to do are:
    1) Call someone with a gun.
2)Pray they get there in time." - A wise man

That's what my wife said. She was right. I only know of two gunsmiths in my area, one is about 45 miles away and one is 70 miles away. Both of them stay backed up pretty bad. There are probably more gunsmiths around, just none that I know of. I am not mad at Colt. Just disappointed.
