    U.S. Army 1911A1 & 30 cal. carbine

I recently got from a friend, a U.S. Army 1911A1, 45 cal. semi-automatic pistol. It has a Remington stamp and a S.A. which I believe means it was re-built at the Springfield Armory. This gun was bought through the NRA, CMP in the sixties. It is in excellent shape, and I was wondering if it is smart to have any mods done like trigger jobs etc. or is this gun just better left original. I also got a 30 cal. carbine that appears to be in excellent condition except for a very dull stock. Should this gun be cleaned up or left original?

Leave them alone if they're in good original shape. Find a newer gun to play with.

Agreed. Shoot 'em as is, but don't change 'em. These are classics.

Love original U. S. military firearms. Do leave them alone. Photos would be greatly appreciated.

Ditto. Take some pics and post them if possible.
Two really nice acquisitions for sure.

A trigger job. Sure. Just don't have anything at all done in the way of alterations to the frame or slide or original internals and save all of the original parts so that you can put it back to100% original condition at some future point in time. Also...Don't refinish it.

In other words...don't lower the ejection port or bevel the magazine well or fit a beavertail grip safety or install new sights...but, you sure can have a gun-smith install a new trigger, a tool steel hammer, disconnector and sear and some new springs....and whatever - Just take good care of those original parts so that you can pop them back in again.
