Its a personal preference kind of thing .. This was brought up in a glock thread recently if you want one ported for the range and not for carry get a spare barrel then you will have same gun ... Me i will soon be packing a Smith wesson carry comp as one of my guns.
On this one the usefulness will out weigh and negative
IMHO, if you can even consider porting a plus for yourself, then the plus outweighs the negatives of porting. For me I don't want to pack a short barreled pistol bigger than .357mag that is not ported. Put a heavy 6" or so barrel on the .44mag and I like shooting it. But that setup is kind of hard to pack around concealed. So give me a 4" ported barrel every time. Smaller than the.44mag and it does not matter to me. That said the 3" WartHog is a great lil 1911 in my book.
