What about a key box, they're locking, hold a ton of keys....they're designed for it? Admittedly the locking mechanism isn't the strongest, but considering it's mounted underneath my sink, and I doubt any crook is going to be looking under my sink for valuables I feel it's fairly safe. Keep the key to the box on your keychain so you can always get to it relatively quickly.

I installed a Schlage keypad deadbolt on the front door, no keys needed. This particular lock is nice as it can't be bumped either. I do have a backup key for it secured in a hidden lockbox but unless the battery dies I don't need it and no longer carry house keys on me. All extra keys/remotes for house or car are in my safe. If I don't carry it, it gets locked up.
