On topic, invading my home, they absolutely do forfeit their right to suck air and any other right reserved for human beings. I do not care about their rights, their humanity or their chances of becoming rehabilitated and contributing to humanity. They are less than a maggot or rat. Gut shot in screaming horrific agony defecating on themselves I definitely would not feel compelled to ease their pain or risk contact with their disease infested body to render aid, nor would I feel compelled to call EMS. LEO can do that in an hour or two after they arrive, if in their professional judgment it is needed. I do not have medical training so I don't know if a couple of .230 grain HST slugs in a sewer rat requires emergency aid at taxpayers expense. If they need aid they can call their own doctor from their cage for all I care
Filth that commit these type of atrocities ARE NOT HUMAN by any definition I know of. They are rabid bi pedal primates at best. There is more to being human than walking on your hind legs. My dog can do that and is closer to being human than they will ever be.

Clearly, you were never in the military. I can sleep fully clothed W/ a kevlar, LBE, Rucksack and an M-16 on and be wide awake if you touch the M-16.

But thats not what the poster I was addressing was talking about was it?

Yes, you absolutely have the right to defend your self/family/home by all legal means.
What we do not have is the right to deny an entire class (suspected criminals and terrorists) the right to due process and that's what the poster was reffering to.

So many think about having the weapon but forget about securing the interior perimeter of the residence. Motion sensor outside lighting, secure deadbolts on doors, locked and secured windows, alarm system, alert canine, all these contribute to a complete home security system. All to often over the years I have taken reports of burglaries where the doors were never locked or the deadbolt had the inside key left in and a window was right next to the door. I am getting a little older and I need a little more time to go from REM Sleep to WARP Speed. You will need to smash out my windows or break down my doors and the dogs will be barking the whole time. This gives me my edge. Good flashlights are an absolute must. Just my .02.

    That's awesome
The way things are going, I imagine in 40-50 years time, when I'm old, I'll probably have to sleep holding on to a long gun.

Than we are in agreement, other than as I said under circumstances like those I posted in post 42 it is completely understandable. As in a case a few years back a mother executed the scum bag who brutally raped her son as he was being escorted to jail after being extradited. I can find no fault with what she did. It was unjust immoral to send her to prison.

Over this weekend in Seattle a boyfriend came home after his girlfriend had been raped. He and his buddy beat the guy. They are now in jail. I think that is wrong. Honestly I can not find fault in what they did. Decades ago a neighbor girl got raped. My wifes uncles and dad ran him down and beat him with bats permanantly crippling him. They were not charged. The rapist went to prison to experience sodomy from the recipients perspective. I find no fault with that.

No I do not think we should have lawlessness and be vigilantes that we can agree on but I do think there are acceptable exceptions to that.

I think the issue here is there are many cases where they have the wrong guy. and executed someone who is only a suspect because of some shaky witness or evidence is not justice...how many people have gone to trial because of false ID? or false cries of rape?

There was a great episode of one of those "Twilight Zone" type shows that went into this...

A woman had been badly raped and beaten, and on the drive home from the hospital with her husband she actually sees the man who raped her. "Oh my God, there he is, there he is!" she screams, and the husband proceeds to chase the man for most of the rest of the episode. Eventually he catches him and delivers "justice." Bloodied and exhausted, he returns to the car and his wife, and they continue on their way.

At the next block, the wife points to another man and says "Oh my God, there he is, there he is!" And then at another man. And then another... Fade to black.

The justice system is wildly imperfect. About the only thing worse is these proposed "exceptions" to it.
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.

Whenever I hear about one of these terrible incidents, I think about this song by the Drive By Truckers:

YouTube - Drive By Truckers- Two Daughters and a Beautiful Wife (Brighter Than Creation's Dark)

Written for the Harvey Family, which were victims of the 2006 Richmond spree murders. Family of four, including two young girls that were brutally murdered, and the house set on fire.

Perhaps I should have used "want to" instead of "can". I can sleep wearing all manner of things in all sorts of positions. The question is, outside a combat zone, why bother? Its not comfortable to sleep wearing a duty belt and I don't expect its comfortable to sleep in full combat gear. Just because something is possible doesn't make it necessary, comfortable, or worthwhile.

The boyfriend walked in right after the rape with the rapist still there. The rape victim asserts that they got the guy who raped her. So, I doubt he got the wrong guy.
As far as I know the two guys are still in jail and the rapist is in the hospital has not been charged.
