I'm also going to reach for a shotgun or Glock 19, but if this is closer... it's not going to be nice.

A baseball bat for home defense.
Sure beats a Wiffle Ball Bat any ol' day of the week.
Many, many sheeple have bats beside there bedside and feel like they have "the ultimate weapon" for home defense. If you're a CCW holder, it's your obligation(as a fellow citizen) to mearly point out how the big bat won't get it done. Sadly, sheep simply don't know, so try to inform them. That's all.
If someone (i.e. BG) is close enough to be hit by a baseball bat, he/she is WAAY too close for comfort. I prefer something with some standoff...like a gun...

I have a ball bat. It was used for baseball. My BG Bats are made by S&W, remington, Springfield... If I HAD To use the ball bat I would, but the chances of me having to use it are VERY slim.

Open Carry LAW for Pennsylvania
In addition to my firearms I have a couple of blades and a short-stick that I've practiced with; plus a Bo (long-staff) that is more for fun and exercise than anything else (it's 8 feet long, and could never be used in a confined area).
I think in terms of weapons, and that includes a lot of different items.
The first rule of self-defense is to avoid the situation. The second rule is Train and Prepare.
Didn't T.R. say "Walk softly and carry a big stick"? Well, if it was good enough for T.R....

It's a perfect BUW. Never runs out of ammo, never fails. (Unless you break it over the BG's head.)
Not my first choice, but couldn't hurt to keep one within reach.
Hey, now. A baseball bat is not bad defense against baseballs. Haven't read too much about home invasions much less robberies and assaults by baseballs lately. Must be the current administrations crackdown on baseball crime.

As Shotgun can be used as a bat, a bat cant be used as a shotgun...
We have one behind the door jamb......really I think it is more for any critters that wander in than anything. It is certainly not a first line of defense for people.
Where I grew up we use to call them " THE BROOKLYN EQUALIZER "
We seem to be making a lot of assumptions here. Lets reverse the situation. You are a guy who carries all the time and has multiple firearms for self-defense both in and outside your home. You have a get together at your home to which some people you don't know are invited. One of the people you don't know asks you about a bat in the living room. You tell him, in an indirect way, that you keep it for self protection. Does that fact that you don't mention your large collection of firearms mean they don't exist?

Keep the BGs at a distance - a ball bat is not the tool. If there is more than one BG then the ball bat just isn't going to hack it. Most of the home invasions I have read about were conducted by multiple BGs.
My Mosberg 500, Taurus 605 will out score the ball bat.
