When reality hits close to 'home'......my long lil' rant

Had a 'minor' discussion with Mrs. GSB last night. Now, she's not an 'anti' but certinly not a 'gun-nut', say.....like myself, by any means. She'll give me a brief amount of grief for carrying to places she feels isn't necessary or a safe place in a 'good' part of town, etc. etc. She knows better but injects her opinion on the matter anyway. She just does not like knowing I have a gun on me sometimes.....funny though, she'll actually request I have it other times. It OK if she feels it might be needed. (silly woman)

Even my oldest daughter has jumped on that 'bandwagon'......she caught me carrying to the cornor stop-n-rob the other night and with suprise and sarcasm "Oooo, scary .....going to the store, better pack my smoke wagon..HAhahaha" (Silly teenager)

Well, I pick up the local St. Mayberry Enquirer (our bi-weekly news rag) and there on page three is a write up on an armed robbery that occured in the parking lot of the Greasy-Spoon....where my daughter works.....at 1300 in the afternoon (that's one o'clock)......minuets before my girl showed up for work. The story is a local looking for cardboard boxes is robbed at gun-point by the recycle bins. Right out in the open.

As i read this at the table last night after supper I looked up at SHMBO and asked her if she knew about this? "Yes....and the restruant is now escorting all employees to and from thier cars, having the police roll through at closing, etc. etc....."

I just looked up and in a somewhat of a stern, flat tone announced that she will not give me anymore grief about carrying anywhere, anytime. This 'stuff' happened in broad daylight with people all over the place, and you dropping off our daughter for work.

I don't push guns or anything like that to the wife, She knows I want her to at least learn how to shoot but again, I give her the space to decide for herself what's right for her. This event though, rubbed me a way I didn't like.......this was WAY to close to my girls. (I still have yet to completly understand this father-instinct thing, but I'd get both feet into anyone who tried to pull a gun on my family if I was around and pull his soul outta his )

Then she said something that slaped me almost goofy with glee........ " I've been thinking, with you gone and deployed so much, that I need (that's right, not want or should, but need ) to get a pistol that I can carry when I need to." Mrs. GSB even asked if she can "go to the gun shop with me and look at what they have.....and see if they have that 'lil dbl. barrel shotgun you were talking about? (a Stoger 20ga. coach gun)"

All I could was be thankful it wasn't something more tragic that got my wife's attention. A close call is a close-to-home slap of reality.

Congrats Sir! You are lucky. My wife , even after several warning incidents still has a sheep mentality and thinks "security" is my job. Duh. I have given up on her, luckily my sons are bright and can be entrusted to at least protect our home in my absence. Usually I am with them otherwise. My employer's work place policy for robbery is to comply with perp. Naively assuming they won't kill you if you do. Ignoring other scenarios. I get so mad about how sheep enable crime by being weak. If this economy was'nt in shambles I'd move to a self defense friendly state with fewer liberal judges. My biggest fear is God forbid I have to use a firearm in self defense or in defense of others. That some liberal POS judge will further ruin my life with a prison sentence. It happens ALL the time.

If this happened in my household, I would look my wife straight in the eyes, and say,

"Who are you, and what have you done with my wife?"

Glad to hear she's starting to understand the threats in society.

Do you have any idea what this means?!

It means that you get to buy another gun!!

On a serious note; it's sad that it takes a crime to turn someone to face reality, but it seems to be the only thing that will work.

Thankfully it happened close to home, and not at home.

Oh, and I'm jealous 'cause I wanna coach gun

It seems like everyone has to see it for themselves. I am glad that they are coming around.

I made it clear to my (then future) wife that I expected her to get a permit and always carry to protect herself and my children. She went from anti to always carry pretty quick.

Careful know. This is how it started for me. I came home just before Christmas last year and was greeted with, "I need a shotgun." Uhm, OK great, where did this come from? I've been saying this for 6 mths. Then it became, "I like the shotgun, and that's probably what I'll go for first, but I need a pistol too." My wife is now the proud owner of a Rem 870 12 ga and an XD sc9mm. Our last 3 month range membership was her idea. I caught her eyeing a .22 pistol, a Benelli M4 12 ga, and an AR 15 the last time we were at the gun shop. Her CCP class is July 31st. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. Just giving you fore warning. It starts small. The group range trip is getting more expensive.

    Congrats.

Keep working on her, and encourage her...she's catching on.

It took my wife decades and a bad experience in a parking garage to understand the meaning of 'armed'. Shortly after that experience she got her permit and a 'first' firearm.
She still does not carry all the time, but her awareness is right up there.

I've seen a bit of that in other avenues in our life...... upon returning from my first patrol/deployment after getting married, SHMBO'd had 'adopted' my pick-up and has yet to give it back.

I'll let her buy what she wants as long as I get to 'play' too.

And ret, now's that she's 'thrown' that gaunlet the gentle encouragement will continue.

I am lucky to have a beautiful wife who is chomping at the bit to get her Glock 26 ordered and her CCP class taken. LOL Keep working you will get through.
