Uhhh guys... I know that there are a lot of dumb criminals out there, but there are not-so-dumb ones too. I would not anticipate the criminal allowing the safe owner to open up the safe, and retrieve a "safe gun" so he can defend. Need to be a little smarter than that!
I have firearms in my house and I keep them loaded in case of a home invasion, so if the situation gets to where the bad guy is making demands and I'm unarmed...then things must have gotten very ugly and I doubt that he would even be alive. Nonetheless, if it gets to that I have an old Beretta 1934 .380ACP that I always keep loaded inside my safe for that specific role. Therefore, if he takes me to open it I will gladly do it. I would hand him over some fancy watches and cash I keep in there to serve as a distraction and when his eyes flash with "bling" and greed, I would pull out the pistol and shoot him point blank until he is out.
I'm buying a Ruger SP-101 2.25" .357 Magnum for this specific duty since I want more firepower. I think everyone should have a last ditch handgun in their safe.
