I'd go the the Handgun first...it's quickly accessible along with my Surefire. Although I did buy my 870 for HD...it's just too dangerous to keep it loaded and quickly accessibly with my curious 2 yr. old.

I've got no shotty, so its a pistol.
As HKchris said, the police are a close second. I'll want them there to help clean up and haul off the BG.

If you are in Germany, things might be more dificult, but do you really belive that the police will get there before an intruder can hurt you or your family?

If 7 rounds of OO Buckshot through my 1100 doesn't solve the problem, I really pissed off someone I shouldn't have

My 590 Mariner is loaded & beside the bed (no kids), but I would probably grab the G22 w/x300 that I keep in the night table.....not really sure why, I know the Mossy is more effective, just feel more at ease with a handgun.

Depends on what I hear. I usually grab a K frame with CT laser grips but a 12 gauge is also ready to 'repel borders.'

    I didn't vote because I have a 20 gauge 870, S&W .357 revolver & a glock beside the bed when sleeping. However, I'd probably grab the 870 first.

Handgun. It's the most accessible and maneuverable in my house as well as allowing me a free hand when need be.

I voted handgun. As I work my way through my G30, my 4566, even my CZ-82, my old (legal) sawed-off 20 ga single-shot is my tool of last resort. It makes a handy bat, also.
