Well, at this time, no shotgun or rifle to speak of so first thing getting grabbed is my cell phone, Glock 21SF, extra mag, and SureFire(just until I get the funds for a TLR-1) out of the safe thats a foot from the bed. If its just me and the kids at home alone, I'm heading to there room to hunker down and call 911. If there grandmother is there, she's headed in there room and grabbing them to her room with me providing cover then heading in right after her to her room. Only one main hallway/entrance to defend with this method. I'll have the G21SF, she'll have her G19. Anything they want to steal, they can have. I got all the precious stuff in the room with me already.

I am surprised no one mentioned the Taurus Judge or the new S&W Governor as an option. Kind of the best of two worlds.
It's not a problem til they make it one!

I'd choose the SIG 220 also. It's on the nightstand beside the bed along with a flashlight.

I would have to strongly disagree. I want more capacity for home defense personally. I feel more comfortable with 14 rounds from my Glock 23

My first choice would be the shotgun. That's if I have the choice. I have a handgun too located in a different spot and depending on when the HD happens, I might grab the handgun.
The first rule of self-defense is to avoid the situation. The second rule is Train and Prepare.

If limited to one, it will be a handgun. The shotgun, despite it's many positives, does not lend itself to going to the door with me when there is an unanticipated knock at the door. Additionally, keeping a long gun, any long gun, constantly near by and accessible is improbable.

First weapon of choice would be a carbine for me.

But, in reality I'm going to pick up my Sig first cause its the closest and quickest. If I don't immediately come face to face with a threat...the carbine is next in line.

Same as above--my first weapon of choice is the M4gery. The first weapon at hand--assuming it was the middle of the night--would be my Glock 34.

Bump in the night, I grab the 1911 that is always near me.

Crash or glass, it's time for the shotty. I don't keep one in the chamber on the mossberg, so it is a matter of immediate escalation and increased heart rate if I have to reach for it and turn on the floodlights. Not so long ago we had a picture fall from the wall, landing behind a couch - not a lot has gotten my pulse racing that hard in a while, but quite a dry run.

+1. I keep both at bedside. Little noise gets a S&W 19 .357, repel boarders goes to the 8 shot Mossy...............that's IF the dogs don't eat him first.
