I know there are more and more touting the carbines right now, but I just don't believe you can beat a short barreled 12 ga. for home defense.

I know most are going to beat the carbine and shotgun drum, and ideally, I would too. However, in reality, it most likely would be a pistol.

My 590 has a very bright Nebo light mounted to the mag tube, full of Express #1 buckshot, so that'd be my first option. That said, I have a couple .45 1911s and a .357mag stashed around where I can quickly get to them if I happen to be somewhere other than in bed.

That is a difficult question to answer as I have several choices within reach and it would depend on my read of the situation. My first choice might be what I refer to as a civilian "flashbang".

Well I have a shot gun and a carbine, but my G23 with x200 mounted and my Surefire E1L, get first nod. My house is small. I will defend it first with my fighting handgun. I have 14 rounds of 180 gr GDHP, to make it real uncomfortable for a goblin in the middle of the night if I need to get to my shotgun or rifle. They wont get to me fast after I put rounds their direction from my .40

Granted, a shotgun will definitely drop an aggressor with one shot and your chances of striking the target is also much better. The only drawback I see is slightly limited maneuverability inside the home. Still, I wouldn’t mind having a 410 nearby. As it is, I simply rely on my handgun for now.

I own a shotgun, but I prefer one of my handguns for home defense. Much easier to open doors, turn on lights, maneuver through hallways, hold a flash light, even call 911 with the other hand.

You simply cannot beat a 12 gauge caliber pump shotgun loaded with 00 Buckshot for Home Defense. Nonetheless, I believe the ideal Home Defense system would be a combination of a 12 gauge caliber shotgun and a .45 caliber semi-automatic full size pistol carried on a belt holster to serve as back up gun.

    Morning alachner,
    I agree but I don't have belt-loops on my pajamas ~~

When at home it is a 1911 with attached light with a carbine if needed.

Here without a doubt my AK, body armor and CZ.
