I'd have my nightstand handgun on my hand, fannypack donned on my waist containing other items (backup handgun/tactical light/combat knife/spare mags/cellphone/access key for long gun cabinet), my sonic earmuffs donned on my ears, and my shotgun donned across my shoulder. I also have an M-4 style AR-15 along with M-9 bayonet and extra loaded mags but they are locked up in my gun cabinet and only used for worst case/special situations.

If I didn't immediately get up to check it out my wife would make me. :)

Our Shepherd cross has better ears, louder voice and shorter temper than I do.
We don't have a cat.

I have a Greyhound who will only bark at other dogs. If there is a strange noise she will alert me by getting up to go check. Since she sleeps in my bed this usually involves walking across me, but it does keep things quiet on my end and I feel this give me a slight tactical advantage when I go to check things out.

It's just the wife and I. We always go to bed together. She arms the ADT door & window sensors and it's dreamland. If I heard the sound of glass breaking or a door being kicked in, I would simply reach down for my Mossy 500 Tactical loaded with 00 buck on its mattress rack and wait for someone to enter or stroll past the bedroom door. Then it's smile and wait for the flash!
