Dogs are a valuable asset and make great deterants, alarms, and a good set of eyes, ears, and nose. I got my father a big white 6 month old pyranese (sp) for Christmas because his old black lab drive way alarms system passed. Plus if your not married and happen to live alone they are great companions that don't complain. Now if I could get mine to cook, clean, and pay some rent i'd love em even more.

i have a springer that literally patrols the house looking out each window in every room. he's not scary at all, but if he barks it wakes up my 140lb st. bernard and he scares everyone. little do they know he's barking b/c he wants pet and not to kill someone. we don't get many people who actually walk all the way up to the door. dogs make great alarms and companions.

Our Bassedor, Max, is 55lbs of love (okay, and muscles), but that big ol' chest of his sure puts out a 150lb bark when somebody makes noise outside the door or windows:

He's a good dog when he isn't getting into trouble while I'm at work, but since he's half-Labrador and only 2 years old I'll let that slide :P
