    My Early Warning System

Thought I would share my early warning system (still in training)

She is a 5 month old Bernese Mountain Dog "Sambuca"

Still working on the obedience thing, but if the neighbor steps out onto his back deck, she lets us know about it!

    Enjoy the cuteness!

I love dogs...and SAMBUCA is a great looking canine friend.
She's going to be a superb addition to your HD plans.

She is beautiful . And the best thing is that you do not need to turn the alarm system on and off every day

My early warning system warns us of squirrels, leaves falling from the trees, the neighbors dog running around their backyard. It pretty "awesome" when you're dosing on the couch in the afternoon and you're startled awake by one of your dogs snarling and barking at the backdoor only to see a squirrel 30 yards away climbing a tree. Sometimes the barking and snarling pays off when the problem is a strange men standing in our driveway at 2AM. Seeing as though in the middle of the night the dogs have no view of the driveway where they sleep, they still knew.

Dogs are awesome. It makes me sad that mine are getting old.

    Cool

    I think she's a cuttie.

Tell her to give me a call in a year or two.

You will have to excuse Max.

He is a little forward at times.

Just picked her up on Monday from her foster home at Doberman Rescue. Now, she may look like she is snoozing, but she is really listening on the ground for noises.

I honestly don't know how my dogs do it. The doors and windows are shut, the A/C's are on, the TV is droning, they are sound asleep on the floor, yet, they sense and bark at someone walking down the sidewalk 35 yards away. They can't see it. They can't hear it? Do they feel footsteps that far away? My house is on a concrete slab, so that's the only answer I can arrive at.

I wanted my dogs to get used to the sound of gunshots so I took them to the range in NC. I left them in the back of the pick-up for the first volley of shots. Then I released them and let them run for a while. When I fired the next shot, they both hauled ass down the dirt road and would not return. I had to get back in the truck and go fetch them a quarter mile away. They may be great early warning sensors, but that's where their responsibility ends. Shelties are not known for their bravery, but they will let you know when it's time to eat....

Around our place it's all Bullies, all the time! My girls and I are always alert and ready for anything as you can see in the picture. There does seem to be some question about who is top dog though. My wife has informed me that when it comes to pack dynamics, Alpha-Male is a contradiction in terms....
