OP, do you have a door bell?

Installed motion lights in front and rear of house. Currently carrying at home now. Hopefully it was just some dumb teenager on a dare.
An incident like this was the trigger for my purchasing my first pistol, a S&W Sigma series 9mm. I then followed up with NRA training and a concealed carry permit. And I have upgraded myself to an M&P Shield as my carry piece and the M&P Pro Series 9mm for my full sized pistol.
LOL, I bought a sigma 9mm 2 years ago as my HD gun. Then this past febuary, my girlfriend and I took the combined NRA/carry permit class. I just got my m&p 40c this weekend for my EDC. I got a CZ p01 for my full size(ish) gun though. Read the last post and was like "huh"? To the OP, glad to hear you carry at home now. My beautiful daughter is 10 mnths old now, but she will be raised knowing daddy always has a gun in his belt, ALWAYS.
I guess you were more precautionary than practical, I mean you ought to peep from the window or ask loud whose there.
This one of the main reasons I bought a cheap surveillance system. We have had this happen before. So What I've done now with the cameras is I go for the GUN, the wife turns on TV and looks at cameras to see exactly what we've got in the front door.

20 second time is slow. Having kids I can understand though. My time is about 3-4 seconds. I'm looking into a quick access safe though.
