Crime rate up at malls
Note that this is the first gun related crime to occur at one of these malls. Believe me, these malls are located in very affluent, upscale northern suburbs of Motown. But as long as they are accessible to the criminal element (in this case from the D) and the local PD or mall security are "unwilling" to use the very effective tool of profiling, then crime will continue to occur or increase.

When I was a kid my dad would never let me go to certain malls with certain friends. It pissed me off at the time, but as I gained wisdom, I realized how much malls can be a congregating point for all sorts of gangs and unrully youth. (and some of my friends had big mouths, that my dad didn't want writting checks that I would have to cash)

Last time I went to a mall I was robbed and the cashier did not use a gun.

Our local mall was really safe in the 70's. Now it is dangerous on weekends and at night. Security is several fat people with a badge and flashlight. At Christmas they hire real cops on bicycles to police the parking lot. Other than that it is loud rap in the parking lot, people passing drugs ,etc.

I don't wear my $1,800.00 sunglasses out in public, for the same reason that I don't carry my Ed Baur, Dan Wesson, and other high price guns. I don't have any!

Iv'e seen this happen before. Very nice malls in very nice areas of FL used as hangouts for the hood rats. Political correctness kept them from addressing the problem for what it really was, and finally they just closed the mall.

As if I didn't already hate malls, this is just another good reason to avoid them. The last time I was forced to go to one with the family, I carried 2 guns.

I know both of these malls very well, grew up going to them as far as I can remember (I'm 44 now). One is VERY upscale, high priced stores, etc. in a very affluent area. Sometimes it wasn't unusual to see local celebrities and sports figures shopping there on occasion. It's not as bad as the media make it out to be now. I would imagine the level of rif-raf increased there over the years, but I haven't seen anything too bad lately. As far as the other mall (Oakland Mall), it has ABSOLUTELY gotten worse. My wife and I don't even go there anymore and we are both armed. Too much ghetto, low hanging pants, trash talk, thug looking morons now and the stores there seem to cater to that type (urban hip hop styles, etc). It used to be the nicest mall in the area, but has REALLY gone down hill. It seems the whole Detroit area mall scene has gotten that bad, so we both just avoid it altogether unless it is absolutely necessary. It's best to just go there during the week between 10am-5pm.
