    Getting Home

Background: My job requires that I travel frequently, often two and three times a week. I travel to states which recognize my Texas CHL but probably more than half the time to states and cities that do not. When I am home I carry every day everywhere. When traveling I always carry a small first aid kit, a small supply of meal replacement bars, some extra cash, a small flashlight with extra batteries and an extra charged battery for my cell phone. I also pack a pair of light hiking shoes and a packable rain jacket with hood. No fire, no firearm, no knife.

My question is this: what would you do in my situation to be best prepared to get home if the worst were to happen. Have any of you developed a plan for this possibility? Does anyone have any experience with small solar chargers?

I don't consider myself a "prepper" but I am a planner. I just want to make sure I have done everything reasonably possible to ensure that I can get home if some crisis or disaster were to disrupt our society to the point that interstate travel was not possible by normal means. I drove 12 hours on 9/11/2001 to get home after flying out that morning. I'd really hate to do that on foot but I will get home.

I always worry when on travel that my family understands the basic, let alone, more detailed preps that I have left form them. As for me personally, I'll be OK wherever.

Always hope that 'worse case' happens when I'm home, and not on travel.

Cardio is the best preparation you can do. We as human beings were not designed to drive, sail or fly anywhere. We were designed to walk on foot, hundreds of miles if need. If you weigh 900lbs your screwed in any emergency situation. But if you stay in shape. No matter where you may be *unless its overseas, oceans are quite hard to swim across* you will get home.

I dont go to ANY states that do not recognize one of my 14 permits :-D so not being armed is not an option. My vehicle has survival gear, MRE's blankets first aid , A Ka-bar , water even a gas mask in case i ever need it.

Staying prepared is a good thing :-)

My family is survival smart, and my first objective is to get to my Girlfriend, then meet up with my family and close friends elsewhere.

When I was stationed in HI, I always wondered how I would get back to the West Coast USA if everything went to crap (at that time I was thinking Strato - EMP attack = about all you need to turn the USA into 1890).

Finally decided on sailing back, and ended up getting my USCG open water captain's license (no small bit of bookwork). At least at sea, did not have to worry about other people bothering me, until I hit dry land again.

The real issue here is, if you are walking around, who else is, and what will they do to deter you?

Honestly in that situation, anyone that attempts to get in my way of getting to my future wife and family. is not going to survive the rest of the day.
