My friends just got robbed while they were sleeping
They came in through the garage (I assume the wire hanger trick we talk about here) entered the house and stole laptops and cash. All of the guy's tools for working on cars. Went through their stuff while they were asleep upstairs. Sucks and they are kind of freaked out. They have a pretty friendly dog who was upstairs so they think the dog might have come to investigate and they took off.
...and my family tells me i'm nuts for having an alarm and sleeping with a loaded gun next to the bed.

I'd get a less friendly dog.

I've got a friendly sheltie that is not the most intimidating dog in the canine world. But he'll let me know when something is not right then I let the Fenix LD10 and the GLOCK 19 do the striking of fear.
Love having the dog for that early warning system. Always lock whatever you can lock.

A bigger, 'less friendly' dog isn't the end-all...... a little 'noise maker' to alert you is enough.
As for my family, my two mean, evil, spoiled-rotten, man-eatning, 'fight ya for a spot-on-the-coutch' pitts take care of bidness for uninvited anything or anyone.

Call me nuts,...I keep the doors and windows locked when I'm not in bed. Why not? Besides, the more that are left unlocked, the higher the chance you'll forget or pass over and accidently leave it unlocked.

Yup. It's hard to resist if the entry cannot be detected.

Update- they are now gun owners.
It's really scary to imagine what would happen if they had an encounter with this person or persons. If they are brazen enough to gone in while people are sleeping who knows what they might do.

Well, now they've got a couple of firearms lying around, for when those undetected intruders arrive next time. I'm hoping they're considering hardening/monitoring the perimeter, at least.

It's good that they have guns now but they need to look at more ways to ensure their safety.
