I feel bad but not one kid knocked on my door with the "No Trespassing" signs. That was good because I forgot to get candy.

"Don’t take your safety for granted because you live in a low crime area; crime can happen anywhere. "

That's a fact. In my "low crime" area, my house was burglerized, the LEO four houses down had his boat stolen, and the "questionable" group on the corner had an armed invasion, all in broad daylight, all in a one-block area.

I'm far more concerned about daylight crime than at night. The neighborhood is something of a ghost town during the day, repopulated in the evenings. Nighttime is reserved for the "domestic" issues.

    Home Defence

My grand pa recommend me a brief gun barrel shotgun IE Remington 870 for home defense. You can buy it used for very inexpensive and there is a awesome propagate...ie precision is not essential. be sure to get a mild on the risky end of it and make sure power supply is juiced at all times.

Dennis -- if by "precision is not essential" you mean you don't need to aim, you need to do a little more research and practicing. Of course you need to aim...to hit what you intend to hit and to not hit something else. I'm not sure what you meant by your mild..risky..juiced comment.

With the holiday shopping season now in full swing, a suggestion that is seldom recommended, but very useful - when leaving the mall or stores, never walk directly toward your car - walk a couple of rows over, then cut through to your vehicle. This prevents someone from slowly following you until you get to your car, then grabbing and running/driving away. Beware of people just sitting in their cars- they could be watching for targets. Also, try not to exit the store from the same door you entered.

I was taught by my CCW trainer to always use a shopping cart in the lot. It is an improvised weapon if needed and can be used to keep distance from a BG and you.

There's a story out of Minnesota that inspired me to do an Examiner column (link below) about a guy who shot two unarmed teens who had broken into his house. But he didn't stop there, according to press accounts. He finished them both off then waited a whole day to call the sheriff because he didn't want to bother the cops on Thanksgiving.

Here's the story from the Associated Press. You're not gonna believe this.. I've spent part of a career dealing with looney stuff, and this one even has me shaking my head. But you be the judge....
