Agree with the comments above. I wonder if there is an anti gun component based upon the display of poor gun handling. On the flip side I used the two injuries shown (gsw to hand in front of muzzle and overpressure from short barreled AR fired with a blind) to teach my daughter safer gun handling. You can talk and talk, but showing hamburger hand and a guy puking and rolling on the ground can drive home a point.
I enjoy the show but I have to agree that some of these people are idiots. Last season had a few families with a good setup/plan but this season seems to be more about drama with one family member being a prepper and the other thinking they are ridiculous.
My wife and I watch and take some of the good points to heart while getting a chuckle out of how goofy some of their ideas and preps seem. All in all it's better "reality TV" than the Jersey Shore.
Im a moderate Prepper. I live in a small apartment so hoarding isn't an option that plus a small prepping budget leaves me with few options. I have a bug out plan as well as plans to procure food and other supplies after "the event" takes place.
We are and have been prepared for some time. Not for The Mayan end of the world, not going to happen. But Some of use do see that the society we have known will fall apart. It will happen quickly. The move to Forced socialism will not go smoothly.
Our people lived where we are with out Electricity, natural gas and oil for a long time. They did well even without the piggly wiggly store . We can do it again.
You have every right to call us nuts if you wish. But preparing to live with out those things for extend time is what we do. We will not be out hunting for food or trying to take what others have we will be locked down and defend what we have prepared. Unlike the people of New Orleans, New York ect we will not be screaming for the Government or others to save us we will be just fine, weather it be storms, social unrest. Even when the temporary Generators run out of fuel. We will still stay warm we will eat we will be secure. Not just for a few days or a week but on to the next generation if need be. The strong will survive the strong and prepared will survive longer and live better.
Going to miss my coffee you can't grow it here and The hazelnut stuff don't cut it
That show is entertaing. I can't believe how much some people have spent on their preps. A lot of the show is drama for the camera, but I do like to take away some of the more practical things that are possible for an average guy.
Mostly its the mindset not the amount stored or plans made.
We're living in an ever increasing dangerous world, and ever increasing nation of folks with their hand out, and a planet with increasing natural disasters. Few people and "experts" would dispute those facts.
In this day and age, it's even more prudent to be aware of things that potentially could affect your life and well being. Katrina & Sandy are just localized events the government and all their preparation failed at. What if something occurs on a national and/or global scale?
Pandemics, pestilence, global war, dust bowls, drought, earthquakes, tsunami's, economics collapse, volcano's have occurred in frequency throughout human history and will continue to do so.
Add to that our total dependence on electricity, technology, computers, terrorism, our out of control government spending, our unsustainable trillions in debt, the speed at which our next pandemic will reach each and everyone of us... IMHO, we're more vunarable and suseptable to tragitey statistically speaking. And if you believe in the last days as outlined in the Bible as I do...
A prudent person would be wise to be more than nine meals away from starvation. That's just the way my brain chemistry works guys?
