In the early 60s to mid 70s you trusted most anyone, very rarely locked doors, and a lot of people didn't take the keys out of their cars! It was so much easier then to do these kinds of things. Still a determined guy could do a lot of harm before being caught. Very scary. DR
Just FYI
Older F.B.I. stats claim that there are approximately 50 serial type killers roaming about the U.S. in any given year.
I have no way to verify that and can only state that I read it in a report years ago.

Had a colleague get attacked by Richard Ramirez (aka, The Night Stalker), back in the 1980's. Nice guy (the colleague). There was no knowing who would be next, while he was on the prowl. As large as the area was that he covered, it still had everyone on edge.
Your best weapon is your brain. Don't leave home without it.
Thoughts: Justifiable self defense.
Explain: How does disarming victims reduce the number of victims?

I too remember reading something about this, though I forget the number. It's certainly easy to believe. Just think how many people were raped, murdered, robbed, carjacked, etc. just during the time it takes to write a relatively short post such as this one. Quite troubling, I say.
Never know when a pyscho may attempt to make entry into your home, so as I write this I sit with my EDC very much so in reach. Especially out here in the sticks.

Did anyone watch the show last night about Glen Rogers who claims to have killed over 50 and claims to have been party to the Simpson/Goldman murders? He has been convicted of only two murders but his family links him to many others. Scary stuff.

Interesting point from the story:
He was finally cornered by an armed civilian with a shotgun, who escorted Knowles to a nearby residence where a call to the police was made. The maniacal crime spree of John Paul Knowles had come to an end
