You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, "I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along." . . . You must do the thing you think you cannot do. Eleanor Roosevelt

I'll second that question. I am geared (mentally) for engagement range to be 100 meters, and long distance to extend to 1,000 meters.

If the SHIF, I am (because of where I have my abode) focused on low signature less than or equal to 100 meters for long range (rifle). 25 meters or less for shotgun or pistol.

Just the way I am mentally programmed right now, and understanding of my terrain study, as well as what I need to be effective in my 'hood'.

I have dump pouches on my molle vest for spare ammo.

Of coarse all my bulk ammo would have to be stashed and left behind.
I think i could toss the sks, glock 20, and maverick 88 into a bag for a similar effect

    My range id say

    Shot under 50 yards
    Short-med up 150
    Med upto 300 if needed
Long 300+ capabilty but would be used closer

    Two very good suggestions.

I would get something sniper level and more magazines for your weapons! You can never have too many mags!

Id consider the FNAR sniper level since its scoped and a sub 1 MOA rifle

Hopefully getting a Marlin 60 22lr this week. I might add a mag or two but none of these guns have mag safetys that I know of so theyle still shoot and i dont expect to get into some massive fire fight and live anyways.

Good call on dropping the PS90. I was going to suggest selling the PS90 and the SKS and getting an AK or AR. Mags, mags, mags, mags. Ammo, ammo, ammo, ammo....and then some spare parts/spare guns.

Update, I dropped the order on the PS90 due to ammo availbity
    I have started relaoding

scope on the FNAR has switched to a nikon buckmaster 6-18x40 and got my extra mag in.

SKS has had techsights put back on the the factory mag re added with plenty of stripper clips

I have also added a Browing A bolt II stalker in 243 and a Hi Point C9 9mm

Ammo not including the full componets to make more 308 etc which is quite a lot is

roughly the following (308 will increase a lot once I sit down and finish reloading it all)

    308 600
    7.62x39 650
    243 90
    22lr 1850
    12g 400
    9mm 400
    10mm 450

I don't want a DI gun for SHTF nor can I afford one currently, and Piston ones are even more.

I have used the M16A2 and the M4 in the Military and I was not that impressed with the reliabilty

SKS is more like the hanguns I'm used to everyday with the handle on the bolt like racking a slide vs the chargeing handle and ping pong release/hold.

SKS/AK you rack it and your good it's much simpler, Although I have training with the AR platform if I have to arm others the SKS is the best its easier to operate and has the most strait forward safety compared to the AK or AR.

AR is usaly ligher or much lighter and is quicker to reload but an SKS with stripper clips aint bad and stripper clips are cheap.

I agree that "SHTF" might be a different definition to many. Are we talking about zombies, nuclear fallout, The Road, 1776 all over again, or what exactly?

For example, with zombies I suggest a nice 22LR shooter. All they need is one, maybe two rounds to the head and with a nice 22 rifle such as the Marlin 60, 795, or Ruger 10/22 you could easily take out a good sized horde on the cheap.

Now for other situations where you might encounter more people (both good and bad), 9mm, .40, and 5.56 calibers will be your best bet. Lots of people will be using weapons of that caliber and it's something you can "scavenge" for easily. Glocks would be very good since they are small and light, lots of interchangeable parts/mags, and commonly used. Similar for the Beretta M9 since it is standard issue for lots of the military, minus the small and light part.

You can't go wrong with an AR for similar reasons above. Highly modular, common, and 5.56 will be abundant. Just remember, the more 'eccentric' your caliber is, the harder it will be to find, especially from other people. I think of it as Oregon Trail.. but more modern.

Dont have a particular scenario in mind but id like to live 3 months + if possiple.

I have to scavange I can just pic their gun while im at it

Id still take the glock 20 for its versatility and have enough ammo for it. I also have two 9mm if needed

If have go on the run i picked up a ILBE + assualt pac

I attached a scabbered to the assualt pack for the marlin 60 for my wife to carry
