The FBI has released their 2007-2011 “Murder Victims by Weapon” report. The results are contradictory to anti-gun industry claims that relaxing the ban on assault weapons will cause more crime.

The report indicates you are more likely to be killed by hands or feet than by a rifle or shotgun.

.....snip...While gun ownership has dramatically increased since 2007, murders for both the shotgun and rifle categories have seen declines faster than the rate of personal weapons related crime.

The rates of decline for the shotgun and rifle categories are 22.1% and 28.7% respectively. In 2011 there were 356 shotgun murders and 323 rifle murders for a total of 679 murders.

Come to think of it the hands and feet are the oldest weapons known to mankind.

Discovered just before Rocks, if memory serves.... boy how they tried to outlaw them rocks... it was a travesty... but then some guy came down off the mountain with some words written on rocks... and we thought that was cool... a peaceful use for rocks...

Murders by all weapons decreased each year apparently.

    Good news.

I suspect that shotguns would be used mainly for intimidation, if one's mind was to violence. They're not portable enough to be convenient, and so you'd have to be right-out , angry to use a shotgun (or a rifle).

Anyway, you're more likely to be murdered (manslaughtered?) by air pollution than guns, so it's really a question of priorities

You're also more likely to get killed by a bee sting than a shark bite. That's because bees are everywhere, sharks only in the ocean. I wonder if it has anything to do with everybody having hands and feet all the time but not everybody carrying a shotgun?

The real stat to point out is that Hands are responsible for 100% of gun involved murders.

Anti gun people are saying ..."See, See, more gun restrictions and murders would go down." Gun people are saying ... "See, See more guns mean less murders." It's raining pretty hard here so keep your powder dry, just in case.

We should start requiring registration of all people with martial arts skills, and require background checks before you are able to join a school or dojo. You will need to show a compelling reason why you might need training in assault tactics...

I think you all see where I am going with this.

    Lies, damn lies, and statistics.

If you look at the FBI numbers and convert each category to its percentage of the overall murder total for each year, the percentages are pretty consistent year to year. Handgun has the greatest variation, due in no small part to it's large overall contribution. Still only ranges between 46 to 50% of total.

The only common sense gun legislation was written about 224 years ago.

I carry always not because I go places trouble is likely, but because trouble has a habit of not staying in its assigned zone.
