On my hip until I get into bed, then it goes under the mattress with the handle sticking out so I can get a full grip on it before pulling it out. Then my mossberg 500 is in the corner at the foot of my bed

I use a thumb ball mouse, double stack 1911 lays to the left of it with the grip below, so I would guess about 1 inch.

When in bed I made holder that slips between the mattress and box spring so the hand does not even have to come out from under the covers.

After reading some posts here in the past few weeks about guns locked in safes, by the door, in the bedroom in drawer I am quite suprized at the number of posters actually prepared for whatever may go wrong at home. I posted this thread mostly to provoke those who dont to hesitate and possibly think Hey if someone did bust down my door id be toast before I could get to my gun safe etc etc.
Im pleasantly suprized kudos to the membership. I keep my 45 on me until bed then it goes into a shoulder holster hanging on my bedpost by the 12 ga. I do the shoulder rig thing at night so that if I have to come out of bed and have time i can sling the rig over my shoulder in seconds grab the ga and have the 45 for back up to the shotgun. Thanks and be safe

Yes, that is good. I keep an HK on table at bedside and can grab it by simply reaching over for it. If there's time I snap on a duty belt slung over a chair at bedside, holster the HK and have 2 extra mags, flashlight and cell phone on me att. Then I can grab the shotgun beside it.
If there isn't time then just grab the HK and go to work.
