Not trying to be a jerk or anything, but you shouldn't be carrying if you can't control yourself to prevent yourself from picking fights.
Your comment of:
Is the real clincher. So you're saying that if the mall wasn't crowded... you would have drawn? If so, you would have been in the wrong.
Perhaps you ought to go back and read some of the comments that have already been made.
#1 - he didn't pick a fight. He specifically avoided confrontation.
#2 - the statement of drawing in the mall has already been explained.

I have to say after reading many posts in this thread.
SHAME ON YOU POSTERS who are telling the OP to restrict his use of the first amendment just because also exercises his use of the second.
Laughing at someone with a stupid shirt is the prerogative of the OP if he so desires. Doing so should in no way mark him as a target for some scum to intimidate him or worse. What the OP did was in no way something that should reciprocate violence upon himself for his actions. Those warning him that his actions should be avoided because it may cause idiots to use violence is stupid.

The man laughed. He had a blue tooth in his ear. He could have been laughing at something said to him over that. The punks in the mall were looking for a reason and a person to try to show how large their........ well how large they were
For crying out loud. How pc have we got where we are afraid to laugh out of fear???? I try not to laugh at some of the hillbilly wanna bs running around here with their pants around their knees and caps spun backwards and so large they look like a mouse under a barn shed, and if I do I try not to be obvious about it. And even if i cant help a grin I could be grinning about something I thought was funny in my head that has nothing to with them.
OP laughed, big deal. These guys were looking for somebody to prove their lack of manhood too.
I dont do anything to anybody and will help about anybody but Ill be danged if I creep around like a whipped dog all the time afraid ill offend some village idiot if im armed or not armed. Which I always am. JEEZ

I'm glad the mall was crowded if that's the only thing that kept the OP from shooting someone for giving him a dirty look.

Flipping someone the bird in traffic is his prerogative as well and we know how that turns out sometimes. What is legal to do isn't always what's prudent to do. Some people don't seem to understand the difference until after enough experiences doing legal but imprudent things. As for me, and especially if I'm armed, I'm not engaging some saggy pantsed punk on any level unless he engages me.

Maybe, maybe not. MLK is undoubtedly one of the most over rated historical figures in American history. I am unaware of anything really important he accomplished. He was a professional protester and an agitator. Barrack Obama is a two term President who has actually accomplished a lot in office, whether you disagree with it or not.

I think the OP and the rest of us know the difference in flipping someone off and simply laughing or grinning. One is directed specifically at someone and cant be mistaken for what it is.
A chuckle or a grin can be provoked by anything a person just thought about or heard or saw and no way of anyone knowing why. Unless your pointing your finger at the person and laughing your head off. Which he didnt do. Nor would I.
Some thing though legal are offensive by their very nature and would be to anyone they are directed at.
Laughing or grinning in a public place is a bit over the top as far as guarding ones behavior. If I grin or chuckle about something that strikes me funny it could be nothing but something I thought about from the past. If some kook takes it on himself to think its him that provoked it thats on him. Where he escalates that too is on him also. What happens because hes an idiot trying to prove something? Well thats on him too.

In reading the original post it seems obvious that the punk in the funny shirt got the message loud and clear that he was being laughed at by the OP. He understood the implication and the OP certainly did. Look..we can slant this a number of ways but it is what it is. I'm glad the situation didn't escalate to the point that the OP had to bring his gun into play and have his whole world turned upside down because he had to ventilate some insignificant loser with a temper, in a shopping mall over a silly shirt. All avoidable.

Rereading the original post, I think I may have been a little vague. That coupled with the editing by a mod for a violation might have a few people confused. Short retelling to hopefully clear up any misunderstandings. Walking through mall, see shirt, laugh a short, quick haha, maybe two seconds, no pointing or any other indication of what was being laughed about. Guy wearing shirt and his two friends approach me in a hostile and threatening manner, and using foul language, (really hope I'm good with it this way Rock, if not I'm really sorry. Please don't ban me
) ask me if I have a problem. They gave me the dirty look after I played the I'm on the phone bit. I would never consider pulling my gun over a dirty look. I get those every day from my wife and teenage daughter
. I WOULD pull it to scare off THREE hostile assailants, if given no other choice.
Now that being said, can't we all just get along?
Disarming innocent people does not protect innocent people.
Don't ever think that the reason I'm peaceful is because I'm afraid to be violent!

I'm good. My issue with this story was the comment about the possibility of drawing your weapon in this situation which seemed from the original post to be premature. Sweet move on the Bluetooth phone call fake out.

I would have told him his shirt is funny. If he wants to escalate it to physical that's his issue. From there, my hands are tied.
