That's a pretty good map. I'm impressed with the information included in each incident. I only wish the specific make, model and caliber were included in each.

Nice concept, but like most of these things, it's only as accurate as what's input. It shows NO self-defense incidents in my immediate location, few in the surrounding area, when in fact there have been many within the last year.

It does offer a place at the bottom to submit incidents to add to their map. Offer them the information and help make it a more complete map.

It's missing a lot of good self-defense shoots in my area too. That map is way too sparse.

Please add any incidents you know of. I think that's part of the point here.

I saw this when it forst appeared a few years ago. Doesn't seem to have been updated and very incomplete. Almost gives antis right to say guns aren't used often for self defense.

As I was looking at the map I had the same thought. The map is a good idea, but it is not being kept up to date. If I were an anti gun person, I'd be all over this map with a big thank you.

It doesn't mention what timeframe this represents. I honestly think it is woefully under-represented.

It is good for illistrating the point, however the data set is far below what is actually reported (news) and police files. Good start however.

The NRA or 2A Foundation should throw some money into hiring some researchers and programmers to develop a better database.

At the end of the day, it is also know that many PDs, especially in large No Gun Cities such as NYC, often fail to report gun crime related statistics, for political reasons.

When clicking on Gainesville, FL, the map says it's Gainesville, GA...not too accurate.OMO

What I found interesting were the circumstances surrounding many of the incidents.

Many people here should take note, that in a several of these incidents the survivors actually survived against odds that many people here feel would be too overwhelming to engage. Those who exhort that it would be futile to try draw in this situation, or that situation. It sometimes sounds like they have a defeatist attitude right from the start.

I use the following incident from the map as an example.

St. Louis, Missouri: On June 28, 2010, a young man and his girlfriend were parked at a Rally's Hamburgers when two armed men jumped inside and tried to rob the couple. The driver, not named in the initial reports, drew his own firearm and engaged the robbers in a gun battle that started in the vehicle and then continued outside as the man, though shot once in each leg, exited the vehicle and returned fire. The man shot one assailant in the head, and the other in the chest. The female passenger was uninjured.
Now that would seem like a pretty harrowing experience. One can assume the driver/victim had a winning mind set and was able to remain focused on surviving. Even after being shot twice, he managed to shoot one in the head and the other in the chest. He could have just as easily been one of the dead ones. But at some point, he made a decision that it was benificial to engage them, and he prevailed. A lot of people would have just given them what they wanted and hope they wouldn't be killed anyway.
