Gun signs on front door: deterrent or target?

Hey wondering what everyone's take on these signs that people post on their doors and lawns

Obviously these are only 2 of many examples but this is the idea.

I feel in cases it can act as a deterrent to scare of would-be BGs who do not feel like chancing their life that night. But I also feel it can have negative effects. One it can warn those BGs and allow them to prepare to wage war inside your home. The other con I worry about is when you are not home BGs see that sticker and now know there is a high chance that home has some nice firearms they can steal.

What do u all think? Also would u think the 2nd sign "warning, I don't dial 911" could cause some problems with your defense in court if you ever had to defend your home and use deadly force?

I think it's a dumb idea. In a business that's one thing, but in a residence it either will make no difference or will be taken as a challenge by the wrong people.

Besides, given the generally low intelligence level of the criminal element, the ones you want to be deterred by such a sign either won't see it, won't be able to read it, or won't be smart enough to figure out what it means.

I'm with Smitty. I think it tips your hand. I have alarm signs out front as it deters breakins, but a gun announcement may be more of an enticement that deterant. What if they case the joint, know when no one is home and go shopping? No one is stealing alarms. Guns? All day.

I saw some Older guy probably late 70'ish teaching a Female same age to shoot, after listening to him telling her every untruth about gun ownership and laws etc. etc. after they were done he said "Now you put this Target on your door as a warning"

I'm thinking seriously dude,so now you advertise their may be a gun on the premises, and if I'm a BG I would just ambush her coming home or leaving and make sure she can't get to her gun

Target. I wouldn't do it, just as I follow the creed "Always carry. Never tell."

I wouldn't post those, but I am considering getting a "beware of dog" sign for liability purposes.

No. The first warning they get that I have a gun will be incoming fire.

Although it's a business, this is a better way to deter robberies. I think the last line in the story pretty well sums it up.

Laze, who says he has been robbed four times in the past, got the idea from a Utah ice-cream shop that offered a similar discount and said the price-cut is so popular he may make it permanent.

Target. Only signs I have up are no trespassing and beware of dog.

Bad idea! If you are ever forced to defend your life with lethal force and you go to trial, this sign will potentially be used as evidence of prior intent to shoot any intruder.

As could membership on this forum if you had a really aggressive prosecuter.

I'd skip the sign. Why flag yourself to gun stealing burglars.

Bad idea. I don't even put gear stickers on my vehicles.

Gun signs on front door: deterrent or target?

The only one deriving any benefit from those signs is the guy selling them. CCW really means concealed. Why would you advertise any advantage to some feral miscreant and invite burglary? Forget the signs.

Might as well put up a sign that says "I have things you want to steal".
