Well, I guess it would be nice if said BG would return the favor. I mean it would be nice to know what you're going up against. But other than that, I got nothing.

It gives the intruder a chance to retreat and you a chance to NOT hire an attorney. On the flip side, it informs the intruder of what he is up against and gives him an idea of your location. He then can make the choice to drop the crowbar and grab his gun as well.

Naked, no lights, locked and loaded and no warning. Yep. That about sums it up. (and yes, it is a really bad visual)

Death is nothing to take easily once you have the responsibility. As a Catholic, I would always give someone the chance to retreat so I wouldn't have to hurt anyone. That being said, if time didn't warrant that, than the beans fall where they will. But if I can, I will always give everyone the chance to back-down first. Just my thought, don't bash me for being Catholic :)

It's my opinion that most citizens do not wish to shoot anyone, regardless of the situation.

    This is simply my opinion.

If someone is attempting to break into my home, and I have an opportunity to announce a warning and give them a reason to alter their plans - I certainly will. I want them to leave prior to a confrontation. If need be, I'll defend myself and family, but I have no motivation to advance that event. I'd much rather deter an intruder and let the local LEO find them.

Make no mistake - if they gain entry, it'll be an unfortunate encounter.

I'm not making the decision to shoot them. THEY are making the decision to be shot when they...broke into my house!

I'm going to agree with jomarfl. My faith aside, I would never want to take another life unless it is the last option. If giving the BG a second chance to rethink their decision by saying I have a gun, I am more than happy to. I don't want to have to deal with the aftermath of that situation.

I have for grown sons some have families of their own an i tell them they are welcome here anytime day or night but if its the middle of the night call me or yell from outside. That being said i would have to yell if i heard something in the dark could not live with myself if i hurt one of them. Luckily my dog would recognize them before me.

I thought we already established in the OP that it was a "BG - break in - home invasion"?

Not likely that I'm giving away my location. But there are those who will say that because they really don't want to shoot someone and hope the BG will flee.

So I don't shoot my kid when he gets up for a glass of water and my light's batteries have died?
