Loss of the power grid and the electronics here would be very inconvenient, but not much more than that. Hardly life-threatening.

Thats why we should bomb some of these nations back into the stone age. ( if they ever make it out of the stone age to begin with).

One can prepare for such things...

I could never understand why we did not carpet bomb the surrounding enemy countries when we had the first Gulf War. In the olden days those who had won got the spoils of war. So what spoils of war did America get? We got almost $4 a gallon 90% gas.

The gas coming outta my butt is higher octane than the gas in my truck.
Firing a suppressed is on my Bucket List.

I'm just a spoke in the wheel but not a big deal.

Unless you're hooked up to medical support equipment. Or landing a commercial airliner at SeaTac in bad weather. Or driving a 200-car freight train loaded with ammonia tankers that's headed for the same siding as the Amtrak. Or controlling the spilloff on the Grand Coulee dam in the height of the rainy season. Hardly life-threatening? Really?

It is a very real (and terrible ) threat and IMO more likely than not likely - IF the grid "goes down" and stays down- life as we know it would be over - TEOTWAWKI

I seriously doubt that the loss of the power grid would kill 9 out of 10. Somebody has watched one to many "disaster" movies.

Our 'Just in time' supply chain would immediately stop, to include basic utilities. A low earth orbit EMP attack would be much more effective in destroying the population centers and commerce than ground based tactical nuke targeting. This is a fact. I would not want to be in a large city. The normal cival person turns into an animal very quickly, when in dire need.

    This is a real threat.

Why do you think Looking Glass (one of which is always in the air - or on full ready) and AF 1 (both of them) are EMP hardened (public knowledge)?

Probably best to save your foil - could come in handy when you're having to cook without gas or power

Excuse my strong stance...if you have sensitive emotions, stop reading HERE...but some members of this forum are woefully ignorant on this subject. Instead of making fun, how about educating yourself on WHY some of us think this is important business. Unless, of course, this is Alinsky's 5th Rule in play?

I will just add to all who say oh what the big deal this is stupid etc .. No it is not .. There is a reason why most of are mil is harden to hell and back agastint this or parlty why the ruskies still use cathor ray tubs ..

Think for a second what runs on compturs now or some form chips ?? About everthing from cars to trains to planes even a lot of argicaulartly equipmiet ..

Never mind dam controls/ power plants/chemcial plants etc all are very much compturer run now a days ... Sure some of the stuff is being harden but how much ???

Think about large cities as others said .. They reley on trucks and trains etc to bring in food even water in some case that goes ... Well that is not good now is it

Sure you live in bum scum farm land and have your own land and such might not be as big a deal you live in NY/LA etc or any halfway big town this is not good at all

Never mind it would send mordern medican into the dark ages again ..

And EMP are not that harde to make or build ... Just need a med size atoiim device and a rocket that can reach low earth orbit .. Not that hard that over nebrkas at say 30 k feet .. We be screwed ...Even if stuff was harden cascade failirur would take out most of it ..

This is a very clear and present danger if you ask me

"Taking the pulse of a nuclear weapon

But the effects were far more than a simple light show. When the bomb detonated, those electrons underwent incredible acceleration. When that happens they create a brief but extremely powerful magnetic field. This is called an electromagnetic pulse, or EMP. The strength of the pulse was so huge that it affected the flow of electricity on the Earth hundreds of kilometers away! In Hawaii it blew out hundreds of streetlights, and caused widespread telephone outages. Other effects included electrical surges on airplanes and radio blackouts.

The EMP had been predicted by scientists, but the Starfish Prime pulse was far larger than expected. And there was another effect that hadn’t been predicted accurately. Many of the electrons from the blast didn’t fall down into the Earth’s atmosphere, but instead lingered in space for months, trapped by Earth’s magnetic field, creating an artificial radiation belt high above our planet’s surface."

This was 1960 ... Few compturer back then at all .. Image that today ..

Also note "When a high-speed electron hits a satellite, it can generate a sort-of miniature EMP. The details are complex, but the net effect is that these electrons can zap satellites and damage their electronics. The pulse of electrons from the Starfish Prime detonation damaged at least six satellites (including one Soviet bird), all of which eventually failed due to the blast. Other satellite failures at the time may be linked to the explosion as well."

this was 1960 again there was what a handfull of birds up there .. Now today ....
