Thumbs down Wow, eye opening slam against "Stack-On" gun safes

I was going to buy a stack on for my first gun safe until I saw this video:

Wow, just wow. Made in China??? Look at how easily he opened them all...it really defeats the entire purpose of owning a gun safe. This is really scary.

Three other brands, too. Probably accounts for a good percentage of safes out there. Interesting video.

After considerable research, I have deciced to get the hangun safe from Sportsman's Steel Safe Co. because it is the smalles, cheapest safe I have found that has a Sargent & Greenleaf Group II 6730 combination lock.

I won't trust any Stack-On or GunVault products or anything with a simplex lock to keep out a curious preteen that has plenty of free time and access to Google and Youtube. (These products are probably fine to keep out children that are only occasional visitors.)

I didn't watch the entire segment, sorry but not many get 45 minutes of my time but do a Google on Stack On safe opened with electric can opener.

Most safes do very little to stop someone who really wants into them until you get up into the bigger, more expensive models. Given a little time and equipment along with a bit of knowledge and most of them can be popped right way.

More "Residential Security Container" than "Safe". Nothing that small, light, and thin is really a safe.

Can't even those be hauled off though? People who live in apartments can't exactly bolt them down.

Sure, they can be hauled off. But you often will need a full work crew and, a truck, and so on. Good safes are HEAVY even when empty.

I think Stack On safes make great decoy safes. I got a rifle size one clearanced for $60 from Sports Authority and mounted it in my closet. I put random tools in it so it has some weight to it and even put a few dry wall screws into the wall so it a thief would have to do a little work to get it. I figure it would give them something to take rather than finding the real safe. Even if they did find it, it would be a serous PITA for them to break into which they would have to do because it isn't going anywhere without 6 guys with tools.

Looks like a decent idea to bolt down in a vehicle or RV.
