I'm in the process of moving, the new house has a double lot with a privacy fence around the property.
I will have several hanging baskets with flowers and bird feeders on the inside of the fence, so I've picked up quite a few screw in hooks to hold them. I'm thinking of sharpening the points of those hooks with a disc grinder and installing a few extras here and there around the perimeter.

I would NOT do any of these booby trap type deals intended to do harm. You can and WILL get sued for injuries by BG's, OR people doing their normal business (utility workers, LEO, surveyors, etc.). There are many types or workers authorized to trespass at will if it's in their normal course of work. I have that authority as an engineer here in Florida.

I was thinking the exact same thing. When I was growing up, yards were "shortcuts" through our neighborhood. Of course, part of the difference was, everyone knew everyone in the neighborhood and all of our parents knew who each kid belonged to. Discipline was a neighborhood wide project, if you know what I mean. Of course, we also used to roam the neighborhood with toy guns, playing WWII and hiding behind bushes and trees, "shooting" at each other. The horror!!!! Sometimes we even carried around...dare I say it...BB guns!!! Gasp!

Dulalmighty, it is possible that the fact you saw and confronted them will keep them from ever coming back. Good luck with it.

On my property over a fence they would have been looking down the barrel of a gun at the very least. Maybe wrestling neked with three 125 pound dogs, not like anyone would hear their screaming.

My situation is a little different than yours as the only way onto our property is up a two mile dirt road. Our drive way is a couple of hundred yards through dense forest. Once in the clearing that is our yard their way out would be blocked by our car. People get lost in the 1442 square miles plus of wilderness connected to our property all the time.

In your situation I'd file a complaint about the 911 response and put in a security system. We bought our set up from Fry's they have a system for most anyones budget

I think Washington over all has better gun laws than TX. Open carry has always been permitted the first shall issue state. Has always had castle doctrine. Our laws specifically allow for the use of lethal force in defense of property or to stop any felony. If charged in SD cases where the shooter proves self defense the state picks up the entire defenses tab. A year rarely goes by where some nim rod does not terminated for being where they should not be. Barely makes the paper, normally a one liner in the police blotter. No one ever gets charged. Joe Horn would never have been charged in Washington. 6 to 65 blind crippled or crazy messing with a mans home is fatal in Washington.

Oh you would probably love this place took me nearly ten years to find it and put it together. It is alot closer to civilization that I personally prefer but my wife has to be happy as well. I'd have gone completely off grid. As it is we are about half an hour from the nearest town and just an hour away from the nearest city. We selected this property for two reasons peace and quiet away from that sprawling mass of ants called civilization and security. Wanted a place that is safe, secure and self sustaining. If the entire economic system and infra structure collapsed tomorrow we could live out our lives in relative comfort with out any further outside resources. We live up at the military crest of hill a bit under two miles up dirt road off of the highway. At 900 feet elevation some folks call it a mountain. On one side of our property is a steep bluff that affords us a great view of the Olympic mountains, Hoods Canal and the wet lands below. If you have seen the movie "Twilight" think of the view from the trees add mountains on the horizon and Puget Sound where the river is. At the bottom bordering our property is a salmon rich stream. More importantly it will become Hamburger Hill for anyone attempting an assault us from that end of our property. On the opposite side of our property across the dirt road is the Olympic National Forest a total 1442 square miles of wilderness not counting, state land forestry lands and other undeveloped lands clear to the ocean. . The two mile dirt road to our place is the only practical way to our place. After the two mile drive up the dirt road to our place the drive way is a good 150 yard driveway through dense trees. The property is clearly posted. Alarms are useless no would would hear and if they did it would be a half hour before LEO would be there if they could find the place. Security is provided by cameras some are hidden all with internet feeds for off site storage / accessibility. So no matter what happens there is will be pictures of the perps and their license plates. They also provide real time feeds so we know what is going on outside, from inside the house or remotely via the internet (we like to travel). There are motion sensors that alert us as soon as some one enters the property. Once in the clearing that is our lawn another set of motion sensors turn on out door lights and ring a buzzer inside the house. We have a couple of landing strip lights that I can hit intruders with to blind them if they are uninvited "guests". During the day before they get out of the car they will be greeted by a brew of attack turkeys. Don't laugh folks are terrified by those turkeys, no one gets out of the car when they are surrounded by those birds. The dogs are behind a fence that surrounds the house except the front door and driveway. They have their own entrance into the house. The two bitches bark and snarl warnings. The male hides in the house if anyone makes it to him without an escort he does not bark, he bites with teeth capable of shredding bear hide. At the door is another camera and speaker system to communicate with them if they make it that far, as well as around the perimeter of the house. All the windows double paned double locked. The doors are all steel with dead bolts into a steel reinforced frame. I want to get steel roll shutters for when we go out but the wife is against them. As of now they are not in. Inside we are well armed with weapons on us and within easy reach. Anyone entering uninvited will be making their final fatal mistake. As a last resort we have locking bedrooms, a safe room and an escape hatch if needed.

I was told by my Dad years ago that there are 3 reasons to call 911
    Fire emergency
    Medical emergency
    Police emergency.
Then he said if you EVER need to call 911 for the police for anything you are supposed to say..
This is (name) explain whats going on, and then state "I FEAR FOR MY LIFE" quickly give them your address and drop the phone and continue to secure yourself and loved ones in whatever manner you see fit.

The police should be speeding towards you
    and
Nearly everything you do can be called self defense after that.

Dig a moat, fill it with battery acid, and train some african mountain gorilla's to throw cyborg alligators from the future at them too.

errmmm... yeah cameras and light would work too.
    Airsoft mines? Hmm.....

In all seriousness though, in most states "booby traps" are illegal as they also have the capability to harm emergency workers performing their duties such as clearing a home, responding to a medical emergency etc. You could probably get away with the "hot wire" that someone suggested though.

I agree with the lights and cameras. The one that plays a shotgun slide racking... Now that's hilarious.
