In my apartment if faced with an unfamiliar sound I was going to investigate, and it turned out to be a BG, they would see me right away. Unless they went into my room mates bedroom or the closet, I would, by exiting my bedroom, separate the BG from the exit. At this point if the BG tried to make a run for the exit (without leaping out of a two story window) he would be coming straight at me.

With a scenario such as this, I wouldn't have time to call 911. It would either be he surrenders, he gets shot, or I get shot/stabbed/punched/etc. I don't see many other options because I won't be calling 911 until I know there is a reason to, ie someone in the house other than my room mate. Kinda seems like I don't have the ideal situation. Any ideas for me?

Take a force on force CQB class were you can work the skills you need to answer this question for yourself.

Otherwise, find some friends interested in the same questions as you are, and work some CQB drills with an airsoft & eye protection.

Throw some effort at the problem and you will probably be able to come up with a working solution if you keep in mind you aren't playing airsoft, but instead working a real life math equation of angles involving firearms.
