I hope I haven't duplicated something here but it just dawned on me the significance of this day and I had to shared this.

57,000 American, 75,000 British and Canadian Troops landed on Gold, Sword, Juno, Omaha, and Sword beaches, not with Conquest on their minds but Liberation.
Never forget them, never appologize for what they accomplished!

The invasion of Normandy.
5,000 ships, 160,000 men on the beaches. The largest amphibious invasion of all time.
I cannot even imagine the scene that must've unfolded on that beach, that day.

Had a chance to sit and talk with a D day vet that landed at Normandy in the first wave. Only had about an hour and a half, but what a time it was. I could've spent all day, hell, all week talking to that man. I will never forget him or his brothers in arms for what they did that day and the days following.
i grew up in WV and had many friends and relatives who landed on Omaha and Utah beaches on D-Day. My Uncle Dennis, by marriage,
was in the second wave at Omaha beach. He said that it was impossible to run on the beach without stepping on dead GIs from the first wave. My good friend George Berry, now deceased; landed on Juno beach.
They were the greatest generation. May God Bless them all.
