For you Prior Service guys Transitioned to National Guard

In a post last week I stated that I was currently in progress of joining the Guard. I am prior service of a long time back. If I make it through my ASVAB and MEPS physical exam I will have to go to the Warrior Transition Course in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma.

Can someone, who has been through it, detail it a bit for me?

-What can I expect this course to be like compared to Basic Training?
-What will I need to take with me?
-What is Oklahoma like in terms of weather and such?
-What month would I want to be there? (I am from Florida)
-Expand on anything you feel I should know

The Army National Guard must have changed quite bit since I retired from it in 1991. I was former Air Force and all it took to join the ANG for me was to sign up and take a physical from a local contract doctor. I served for 16 years (two of which was full time as a NG recuriter) and I never had to go to any training nor did I have to take the ASVAB in order to join up. I even considered going back into the Army from the Guard at one point and they told me I would only have to attend a two week orientation course before reporting for active duty. Guess times change.

Yep. I ETS'd October of 1985 from active duty.

I was discharged from the Air Force in '87. I joined the Army Guard in 2006. At the time you were supposed to be sent to WTC within 180 days of enlistment. This was a hot subject when I enlisted in the Guard, with talk of bringing deployed Soldiers who hadn't been through it back. I've now been to Iraq and Afghanistan, and have not been to WTC.

Check with your chain of command as to what the requirements really are now.
