Henrico Co. Va.
"When I got the call (from a source he'd arrested 25 years earlier) I was making funeral arrangements for my son," said retired Henrico Detective Robert D. Hewlett Jr., a 34-year veteran police officer.

It sounds to me, according to the vague article, that someone who had a dealing with the now retired officer,25 yrs. ago called and blew the whistle on the 19 yr. old in the story as the perpetrator in the abduction and murder, of the officers son.
Definitely a break for him (The retired LEO)in knowing and having a positive interaction with someone 25 years ago, who helped solve his sons murder.
A now-retired Henrico County detective's kindness 25 years ago to a minor drug offender helped solve the officer's son's murder in December last year.
From the article
In gripping testimony this afternoon that helped produce a 60-year prison sentence for Deshawn Jackson, 19, the father of murder victim Robert D. Hewlett III told a Henrico judge about a phone call he received hours after his son's shooting death that pinpointed Jackson as the perpetrator.

So Deshawn will be out for his 80th birthday? Much too soon for what he did.
I'm glad that this retired officer at least has the satisfaction of his son's murderer not roaming the streets to commit other crimes.:hands10:
"That I cannot do."
"Give this to, uh, Clemenza. I want reliable people, people who aren't going to be carried away. After all we're not murderers in spite of what this undertaker thinks."
