American Al Qaeda may be even more dangerous than foreign fighters, sources say, because they know the nation’s psyche and its “soft” targets, and its American recruits can often move about the country free

This is a very clear reason why the government should promote to have more civilians carrying concealed weapons in the US. As soon as an armed citizen realizes that there is a terrorist threat underway I guarantee you that he/she would act immediately to protect the nation.

In Switzerland every citizen in obligated to join the Army and get military training when they are 18 years old. When they are done with their service the Swiss Government demands that each Swiss citizen keeps their military assigned carbine at home along with at least 24 rounds of ammo and they have to receive additional training in the future. This allows for the country to have at least 500,000 troops ready to be mobilized in case of a foreign invasion or a terrorist threat.

Now imagine if the US were to do something similar to strengthen the National Guard!!! They would have at least 5 - 10 Million armed soldiers on standby in case that the country needs them to fight against a terrorist threat.

The more good Americans that we can get legally armed will help us in this issue. This is one of the main reasons the HR218, National Law Enforcement (both Active and Retired) Concealed Permit, was put in place to get honest people armed and allowed to carry in all 50 States. I believe that all Americans that have qualified for a cc permit in their States should be allowed to cc in all 50 States. If the Terrorism problem really becomes a National problem, this may happen.

Very scary stuff. If they planned a series of small attacks in malls, restaurants, or subways it would probably make people more fearful than the event on 911. It would have very serious effects on our already fragile economy as well as financial markets.

Having more guns and more troops or more nuclear war heads will do nothing.

The cowardly Al Qaeda does not fight in the open. Their attacks are nothing you can see coming. You don't know who they are or where they are. We have never encountered an opponent like this before and our conventional weapons(no matter how many rounds of ammo) will do nothing to stop them. Our only hope is to find them before they commit the act and that ain't so easy.

i don't believe Al Qaeda are cowards at all. They have merely managed to find a way to successfully fight a superior power. They are resourceful in that they are able to carry out any attacks at all. We bad mouth them, call them cowards and challenge them to come out and fight like men. Why, so we can use our vastly superior weapons and mow them down in the blink of an eye? They wear no uniforms to make them stand out. They use innocent women and children as shields. They store weapons and ammo in Mosques and schools. They use suicide bombers. Hardly the tactics of whacko, opportunistic cowards. While I question their motives and reasons for bringing this war to us, I also think we need to take a few pages from their play books and retaliate with the same viciousness they bring to the table, only more so. Our politicians view our responses as proportional, humanitarian and surgical, but our brave soldiers who fall are just as dead. I say, our response should be the immediate and complete destruction of the country from which the attacks are tendered. We can do it without having one soldier set foot on the ground or be put in harms way. I would bet that after a few large, sandy parking lots are created, the rag heads in control of their countries that remain will reign in their insurgents and religious fanatics. In the words of Admiral "bull" Halsey, After we're done with them, the only pace Arabic will be spoke will be in hell!" And yes, I believe all eligible Americans should be encouraged to go about armed if they choose to. We are at war, a declared war, yet our leaders go about their daily lives like it's one big soap opera. An armed militia is our Constitutional mandate even for those anti's who try to twist the words to meet their anti-gun agenda's. Meanwhile there is a steady drain on our economy and our lives. Our whole corrupt, immoral, cowardly Government needs to be impeached. Where's Harry Truman when we need him?

How an anti would twist this: More reason not to allow CC as we would be arming Al Qaeda.

I think the ONLY way to prevent attacks where individuals attack multiple civilians in public places is for the civilians to defend themselves when the threat is exposed. There could never be enough security/police personnel to keep all public places safe, therefore the responsibility falls on the poeple to keep themselves safe and defend against that kind of attack.

And if the terrorists know that they will get shot right away, they will have to rethink that strategy.

There is no "exposed threat". Your sitting there in the mall eating your lunch and suddenly..Ka-boom. You would never see it coming.

The problem is when they walk into these public places they look perfectly normal and walk right past the police. Little does anyone know that they have a bomb strapped to their chest. Or, they will sneak in a bomb when no one is around. They do this with the most innocent looking people.

If your thinking is more guns and more security as the solution they are are thinking way ahead of that. They are cowards but they are not stupid either.

We should have killed them all and made Iraq and Afghanistan the 51st and 52nd states of America , and warned any country that harms one hair on the head of an American citizen, that their country would be the 53rd state and so on. Their is only one way to win a war and that is thru savage total annilation of the enemy. This would make Goverments of these low life countries have more initiative to police their own countries.
We used to have an organization that knew how to win wars called the War Dept.

    What GunGeezer said.

AlQueda took advantage of a sorry decades long US policy of giving hijackers the airplane. US airlines did not want to go to the expense of installing secure cockpit doors on their planes. A series of US administrations allowed the sky marshall program to go to hades in a hand basket. At the time of 911 we were paying about 50 billion dollars every year for something called "intelligence" . These so called "intelligence agencies"were eavedropping all over the place and intercepting hundreds of millions of phone conversations. One little problem, no one ever listened to them. AQueda is looking for other weak spots as we speak. One day they will find a weak spot and attack.

Wow missed the boat much. Bagdad is a nice city in the architecture department. We should have turned it into a tourist Mecca. Expand the roads imported some McDonalds, bring in some Nike factories (outside Bagdad obviously), call centers , expanded the museums, build some villas beside the rivers, and bring in some casinos. Yeah help a rebuilt Iraq into the premier entertainment center for the Gulf. Watch out UAE hear we come!!!!!!
In all seriousness I think that improving there economic situation is key to conflict resolution.

Maybe you would, but me even if I am armed and there is a terrorist attack with small arms, not blowing stuff up, I would find the sudden need to get to another borough. I have no desire to be dead like a Mumbai cop.
