I saw a similar "negotiation" in China somewhere with a guy holding a hostage in a window. The Negotiator leaned over from a window behind him and had the same discussion as this guy.
There is also a video out there of a female Chinese cop and a guy with scissors to a woman's neck... he gives him a water bottle as a distraction and smoothly draws...rushes and shoots him while he is still holding her. This woman was already bleeding because the guy stabbed her in the arm with the scissors and now had it at her neck.

I remember seeing one in a building window a few years ago. Wonder how many times this has happened in China that we don't know about?

Got to say, it resolves all kinds of problems that we have to put up with here after one of our hostage situations.

It’s an age-old philosophy whereby threatening someone with deadly force is considered rude. Only in America are we asked to consider the attackers childhood and cultural diversity before we shoot.

That should be the end of most hostage sittuations. If it was, I think people would get the idea and stop taking hostages.

That is a good philosophy in my book. Yeah in America we don't want to shoot the perp because the poor soul "may" have a mental incapacitation.

In japan's warrior days. A person who would attack another was consider crazy and deserved to be treated as such.

I think that some do not grasp the rapidity with which life, like a light bulb, can be extinguished by the mere twitch of a finger.

I don't think duct tape will be able to fix that.

That was my first thought, too.

Well that certainly shortened the trial! Reminded me of a scene in an older Bruce Willis movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oKwg6W05MU

Just a bit of hearing loss.

In the USA she'd be suing the police for said hearing loss, and emotional trauma.
