I think airport security needs to be looked into in Hong Kong. His only ID was his frequent flyer card??

"... an unbelievable case of concealment."

"The passenger in question was observed at the beginning of the flight to be an elderly Caucasian male who appeared to have young looking hands. During the flight the subject attended the washroom and emerged an Asian looking male that appeared to be in his early 20s."

Seems like some incompetent security personal were in play here,...I just flew from FL to VA and back, and not only did they require my DL, they had a special flashlight and examined it about 45 seconds , then stared hard at me, then back at my ID before letting me through,.....

I also laughed at the "young looking hands" thing lol.

OK so he was escaping a Communist regime. That's usually given applause. He bypassed some security checks, but what actual law did he break other than illegal entry into Canada? Millions have done that on our own southern border and very few are in prison for it.

    Update.

A young Asian man who boarded an Air Canada plane in Hong Kong disguised as an elderly Caucasian man is expected to appear before an immigration review panel on Monday to determine whether he will remain in custody.

The man, who made a claim for refugee status after he was taken into custody, is set to attend the detention review hearing before the Immigration and Refugee Board in Vancouver. He was arrested after the flight landed in Vancouver on Oct. 29

The man's lawyer, Lee Rankin, said it's unlikely his client would be released from custody until his genuine documents arrived in Canada and were evaluated by Canadian security officials, which could take as long as one month.
Canada Border Services released pictures of the man alleged to have boarded an Air Canada flight in disguise.Canada Border Services released pictures of the man alleged to have boarded an Air Canada flight in disguise. (CBSA)

Rankin also told CBC News on Sunday his client might have used a fake U.S. passport to board the plane but that information was "very preliminary."

"He probably had somebody else's passport or inauthentic identification, and that method is being used every day to get people on planes to Canada," he said.

"What it shows you is a large part of the security apparatus that's been set up is for show and doesn't appear effective in preventing people from entering Canada not using their own proper identification, identities and passports."

During the 12-hour flight, Air Canada security alerted the Canada Border Services Agency to a passenger who "was observed at the beginning of the flight to be an elderly Caucasian male who appeared to have young-looking hands," the agency's statement said.

"During the flight, the subject attended the washroom and emerged an Asian male that appeared to be in his early 20s."

Rankin is accusing Canadian authorities of "playing dirty" with his client, violating his privacy and potentially jeopardizing his personal safety.

Rankin said that revealing the man's photo, even with his eyes blacked out, could expose him to risk in China, a country that "doesn't appreciate its nationals embarrassing them."
    CBSA investigates 'masked man' leak

Meanwhile, the Canada Border Services Agency is investigating how news about the masked man was leaked.

An internal agency alert about the incident was leaked last week to CNN, which broadcast photos of the man in his elaborate silicone mask and another undisguised photo with part of his face blocked out.

Wow. Someone warned three different flight attendants that something was up and nothing was done.
