For Veterans and AD Military on 11Nov2010

There are a decent number of businesses that offer free meals or discounts to veterans and military service members on Veteran's day, here are a couple of lists I have found:

    http://www.vfw.org/News-and-Events/A...Their-Service/

    http://themilitarywallet.com/veteran...and-discounts/

I am sure there are other discounts and deals out there. As an enlisted man, I feel that if a business wants to thank me with a free meal, I should take advantage of the opportunity, but I will certainly thank the manager/business owner on my way out.

So if anyone else has discounts/deals to share for the upcoming Veteran's day, feel free to share here.

And for any of you who wore the many uniforms of the Nation before me, a heartfelt thank you, because without you taking your place in the line, I wouldn't have been able to take mine.

I got a free Bloomin Onion from Outback last year. It may not be all that much, but it was the thought that counts!

Outback is doing that again this year, applebee's and chili's both have a choice of like 6-7 entrees that are free if you go there.

You are right though, it is the thought that counts, I've had some very good experiences in the past 3 years and some odd months of people doing very nice and thoughtful things when they found out I was serving. I always try to be gracious, and feel bad to turn down a free drink or meal, because I know there is some grunt in a hole somewhere dreaming of a good meal back home, and he would expect nothing less of me than to eat it and say thank you. I have the same expectations of my fellow grunts when I've been over in SW Asia.

I got my Birthday Beers when I was in Iraq, and Steak and Lobster is usually on the menu for the Birthday, you should be ok, the chow halls I had at large bases in Iraq were better than most of them stateside.

Lowes does 10% off all year with your ID. It's not food, but has saved me alot of money since I bought a house earlier this year.

Do you still have your discharge papers? DD214?

This is what applebee's requirements are: U.S. Uniform Services ID Card (active/reserve/retired), Current Leave and Earnings Statement (LES), Photograph in uniform, Wearing uniform, Veterans Organization Card (e.g., American Legion and VFW), or DD214. For more information and participating locations visit: http://www.applebees.com/vetsDay/default.aspx.

Tried to go to Applebees last year on Vets Day. What a zoo! You'd think all the old vets hadn't had a meal since they were discharged. I think Applebees actually ran out of most of the entrees. Maybe I'll try the Blooming Onion this time.
