IMO those gangs have to be dealt with swiftly.
Those criminals have been terrorizing people from Mexico to Colombia mercilessly. Some of those thugs are ex soldiers accustomed to rape, maim and murder their own people during internal political struggles and found themselves without a job once the turmoil was over.
The cartels, according to informed sources in Latin America, had been hiring those groups until somehow they organized themselves into what is called " Los zetas" and now they are trying to take over the drug smuggling themselves, since they are the strong hand.

The first line of attack is in our own backyard, drug addiction is not only funneling a huge amount of money in their direction, making them stronger by the minute but is also destroying our economy and our society.

The second line of attack would have to be in arming our police departments accordingly, we are talking guys which outgunned a Mexican army by a large margin. In some occasions, those thugs fired thru brick walls to the Mexican Army with deadly effect.

I'm not expert, but I think a Glock19 is just not going to work here.

Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu made that prediction last week as he addressed an Ahwatukee, Ariz., Republican women's club, and reiterated it Tuesday on the heels of a speech by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano asserting that border communities are safer than ever.

Perhaps Ms. Napolitano wouldn't mind setting up a new office in that area?

I like what you said about " real lawman". There is a difference and we need more of them. I am so sick of these thugs having there way and harming innocents, that I would take a vacation and head there tomorrow if they asked. It's time to clean this up and set things straight. A few good men from Tennesee and Ky did it along time ago, think it needs an Encore.

The M1 guzzles several gallons of fuel per mile. It's not MPG...it's GPM. With fuel at $4/gal...yikes!

I got to drive in one, and to fire the main gun at a tank range. It was awesome! I always wanted to be a tanker, but I chose to go to Ft Drum (to be near family)...light infantry...no tanks. Ah well...

Well good. I expect the Sheriff to expect armed conflict, and I expect the Sheriff (and every other official) to make it very clear that the cartels should expect armed conflict.

My company makes the gas turbine engine for the Abrams... I spent a month of my life at Aberdeen Proving Ground, measuring engine and vehicle vibrations over several of their courses. Got airborne on the 'bump' course a couple of times... a 70-ton, 45 mph dune buggy!

If you say it ain't so 10 times and click your ruby red slippers then the border must be safe.I'm with the Sheriff, the Cartels will get upset when too much product is being intercepted and they will use firepower to try to clear the way, just like the scenario that goes on daily in Mexico.I hope his Officers are armed with M16's and plenty of ammo

Wonder if they are taking volunteers? I'm too old and crippled up for the front lines, but gimme a big rifle and a big scope paired with a little instruction and I'll pull my weight.

I think it's inevitable, and I don't think the Federal gov't is going to be there to defend the people and the border when it does.

The govenment needs to step up to the plate on this and offer its aid to the good sheriff. Good for him in taking action and planning to help ward off the the evils that try to enter our country. I wonder if and when something happens on the border will this strike a fuse in some of these local gangs to act against law enforcement and the American People? Don't fool yourselves America this is a war even if the government won't acknowledge it.

As I recall, those turbines will run on dang near anything, including biodiesel.

Start emptying out the grease traps at all those fast food places!

Nearly all turbines will run on an assortment of fuels; kerosene, various jet fuels, most flamable liquids, even purified cooking oils. Perfomance varies greatly.
