    Hidalgo County, TX

My dad lives in south TX, and heard this on the local news- BP and local SO were pinned down for approximately 7 minutes by auto fire from Mexico while two "unknown individuals" swam the river.

Now, I'm not service, but I have fired FA, and have been around MP-5s being used- 7 minutes is a ******* a lot of suppressive fire for two guys wanting to come norte for extra tortilla money. Anyone have more info?

Mexico apparently take the rights of its people to come here to do gardening pretty damn seriously.

It seems that two brothers swam the Rio Grande to escape gunmen who had taken over their father's ranch. The brothers escaped the kidnappers, leaving their father behind, and called 911 once on the US side. When sheriff's deputies and border patrol agents arrived, they approached the river to investigate and were met with a hail of bullets from across the river. As they took cover, the source of the firing shifted to the East, apparently on the American side of the river. Then firing shifted back to the south, leading to speculation that they were covering a re-crossing of the Rio Grande. No evidence of this was found, however.

The agents and deputies remained under cover until nightfall, reportedly never returning fire.

The two brothers, who live in Donna, Texas, were taken into police protective custody, and later released. It's also reported that they one of them is facing serious felony "matters" in the US.

Here are a couple of links to newspaper stories, the San Antonio Express-News and the McAllen Monitor.
