Talk about the job interview from hell!

Made it through psych, background check/interview and credit. Recently had my oral board... Wow, it certainly was unique experience. I did ok, answered all the questions efficiently and never got any responses questioning what I said. Whether that's good or bad remains to be seen.

The only thing that I think might be my downfall is the fact I have several different CCW permits. Both my background investigator and oral board asked me the reasons for getting each one. Home state is only for target and specifically inquired if the other states were full carry or not (yes they are, that's all they issue). When I explained that I had my FL permit for reciprocity in another state I vacation in the next question was why I need to take my gun with me on vacation. Of course I explained it as I shoot at the ranges down there and being in vacation town with a lot if strange people coming and going, you never know what is going to happen. It's an honest answer, but not sure if they will hold it against me or not. Then they asked me how many guns I own and what they were. (A whole 2, one that I don't even posses yet). That was it, and then we moved on to another question.

I wouldn't worry about it to much. They were just doing a little surface prodding to see if you are a harmless barrel head or if you can't wait to get a badge and gun so you can shoot somebody type.

Good luck, answers seem ok with me.

At my oral board they asked me "What would you do if someone attacked you with a knife?", I answered "I'd shoot him." They advised that they would train me to take the knife away from the attacker, I answered "I'd still shoot him." I got the job.

Thanks guys. I figured the questions were to determine if I were a loose cannon or not, but it was hard to read them after I gave my answers and being in the anti-gun climate of NY I really wasn't sure if I scored points or not. I actually expected some harder follow up questions on my current understanding of the of deadly force etc... I could of dazzled them with my knowledge of the relevant NYS penal codes.

Dave, sounds like a reasonable answer to me. ;)

On the other hand, he's in New York, so the odds are that a LOT of law enforcement officers and especially chiefs there are of the opinion that anyone with a concealed carry permit is a nutter who can't wait to shoot somebody.

Congrats Fast! And since we're friends now, should you happen to stop a red-headed guy in his mid-50's driving a Dodge Ram 1500 with MA license plates just a "little too fast," give him a break.

Good deal, congrats! They sure don't give you much time to prepare though.
