The taser is a non-lethal weapon and does not take the place of the officers duty weapon. Depending on the clothing that the individual being tased is wearing (heavy clothing such as jackets make it more difficult to get good contact from the darts) the taser may have little or no effect on the individual allowing them to continue their aggressive actions.

Dead from head shot? self inflicted? not clear.

Sounds like Officers will heal from their injuries,I remember another episode in Florida where 2 LEO's were looking for a domestic violence suspect and found him at a gun range, things led up to the guy getting tazered and as one deputy moved forward to cuff the suspect he rolled over drawing a concealed handgun and shot the deputy, then shot the deputy that tazed him,in the end both deputies were fatally shot and after a police pursuit suspect was fatally shot, moral of story don't put too much faith in less lethal equipment and be ready to stop the threat with deadly force when necessary

Sounds like a self inflicted wound to me. It is not unusual, once some people realize how deep they are in.

2 HPD officers recovering from shooting; suspect dead after standoff | khou.com Houston
says it was self-inflicted
and DON'T TAKE A TASER TO A GUNFIGHT!!!!! If the person reporting the incident says he has a gun.....then get yours at the ready, and wait for backup if feasible
and to add insult to injury....so to speak...someone stole the wounded officer's gun after he got shot:

If loose gun laws are good for criminals why do criminals support gun control?
