Damage control for the other 2k guns they knowingly allowed to be sold to straw buyers?
Yeah...still gotta call BS on this one. Leadership roles??? All they did was net the Tier 2 or sub contractors for transportation of product across the border.
"Weapons procurement networks are highly reliant on straw purchasers to be their pawns in buying weapons from licensed dealers, but HSI is not content to go after just the low–level foot soldiers in these organizations. As this investigation demonstrates, we are focused on moving past the foot soldiers to target those responsible for playing leadership roles in these criminal enterprises."
I seriously doubt they have even got the attention of the lower level management of the cartels. They call it "Shrinkage".

Are some of the drug cartels purchasing firearms in this manner??
Is this how the majority of firearms are being acquired,?
I'd be willing to bet no on that one.
The feds haven't the inclination or the desire to dig that deep.
All they want to do is try to throw this out there, and then say, ohmygosh,!, we have to stop this from happening, and next thing you know, buying a firearm in the good ole US of A will be even more difficult, and soon to be impossible.

Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear.

It wouldn't be the first time that some government agency created a problem so that a solution could be introduced.
All they want to do is try to throw this out there, and then say, ohmygosh,!, we have to stop this from happening, and next thing you know, buying a firearm inthe good ole US of A will be even more difficult, and soon to be impossible.
Its been going on for centuries. Its the easiest way to infringe upon one rights...slowly eliminating them a bit at a time. Of course, the propaganda machine will assist by declaring that the proposed solution is one that we must all accept in order to remain safe.
hecks...the next step towards registration and confiscation.
