Texas State Trooper shot during traffic stop

    UPDATED IN POST #12

Yesterday about 20 miles west of Odessa on I-20, a DPS trooper stopped a car and was talking with the driver back by the trooper's car after finding a small amount of marijuana. A passenger, convicted felon with previous stints in prison, exits the car and opened fire with a handgun hitting the trooper in the right arm/shoulder. Trooper returns in kind hitting the dirtbag (one report says knee, another said both knees). Suspect gets back in car and takes off. The trooper got on the radio and other troopers and agencies joined in the chase. 10 minutes later the 20 mile chase was ended on the south side of Odessa and the shooter and a female in the car were taken into custody.
One report said the Trooper was taken to the hospital by an Ector County school district officer (who understandably must have been going warp 15 to get out to him).
Trooper was released from hospital last night
More details to emerge as its an ongoing investigation.

I wish him a speedy recovery. Good response by the rest. They don't teach marksmanship in prison.

And some people wonder why some LEO's are nervous out there...

Glad the trooper is on the mend.

Glad the trooper is ok. Too bad the dirt bag is not taking a dirt nap. But I wonder how that knee is feeling (or knees).

In Texas every car can have a legally concealed weapon,as long as you can legally possess it,one thing that will get you in major trouble is having drugs and a gun in the car.Glad the Officer will survive,Really sorry the dirtbag survived

Hey "tkruf"...I think you've got something there...a new slogan "dirt naps for dirt bags" I like it! Maybe i'll change my signature line...

    UPDATE

Trooper had asked driver to step out, then asked other to get out, passenger Marcus Christopher Lott pulled a .22 and opened fire hitting Trooper in right shoulder and exchanged fire. Lott got back in the car with a female Ashley Simpson and drove off, striking another DPS patrol car (BAD, BAD move). Trooper in that car opened fire and chase ensued. The driver Alfonso Butler surrendered at the scene.
DPS units used spikes and gunfire to stop the vehicle (he he he he). It crashed and the 2 inside were taken into custody. 2 baggies and another pound of weed, and 2 guns in the car.
Lott and Simpson are charged with Attempted Capital Murder (5-99) and state jail felony possession of marijuana (should be punished as 3rd degree since deadly weapon used 2-10). Lott has felony warrant from another state.
Butler has a parole violation warrant and for the marijuana also. (should also get charged with felon in possession of firearm 3rd degree felony)

    Cool

Glad the DPS Trooper will be alright.

Good job by all LEO's in getting these poor misguided souls into a place where they can get the treatment they so desperately need to continue on the road to turning their lives around after this regreatable misunderstanding.

Oh yeah and I have some swamp land in the everglades for sale that would make a great vacation home.

Hearing things like this is scary. I was stopped in Texas today and after informing the deputy I had a firearm on my person he had me place it on the seat then he placed it in my glove box, I would have figured he would have removed it and not have had me handle it.

Here is hoping for a quick recovery for this trooper.
