Sometimes in life you have to stand your ground. It's a hard lesson to learn and even most adults don't get it, but in the end only I can be responsible for my life. If faced with any type of adversity, only I can overcome it. Waiting for someone else to take responsibility is a long fruitless wait.

He had the tools, and the will to win! If he hadn't, he would have died.

I have heard people argue that one cannot fully train his mindset; either he has it or he doesn't. I don't know if I agree, but I do know that when some people are getting ready for a fight, and their opponent is ready for mortal combat, the latter will be victorious.

I don't know if this mindset can be trained or not either, but having it is a big plus in an armed encounter. Cheers to Officer Reston.

What an incredible story. And to think that the whole thing started with a lousy shoplifting.

That is what struck me as weird, willing to kill a cop and get killed for a pair of pants and a shirt.
How something starts out, is often not how it ends up. If you give up, chances are good that you will neither live nor win.
    Kudos to officer Reston.

    What a great video/story!
That Reston took so many rounds from a 45 (especially that first one in the jaw/neck) and yet continued the fight, is a tribute to him.
    Thanks for the post.

This really emphasizes the need to ALWAYS wear your body armor. I know alot of officers who don't wear theirs while working extra jobs. I guess they think that since they're not "officially" on duty, they don't need to wear it. I don't care if I'm working a 5 year old's birthday party, I just feel naked without my vest. Even though this officer was working in an off duty capacity, he still encountered a situation where he had to take law enforcement action.
