Okay thats like four rounds of ammo per man, it can also be used in AR 15 rifles.I'm betting some idiot thought they could steal about $5000.00 worth of ammo, and probably only got about 1/3 to 1/2 of the price, and looking at doing 5+ years in leavenworth,it ain't worth it

Maybe the bush monster snuck over from Camp Lejune and ate it?

In the 2100 they will find it in a mismarked container, setting in the back of a warehouse, labeled messkit repair parts.

Most always sloppy paperwork, some dead head singed out for 17,000 rounds and the poor PFC reading the paper work could not read the number on the rec and marked off 11,000...... type of thing.

Back during the late '70's and early '80's, a fellow could recover that much on a Saturday just by rooting through the live fire positions after a battalion exercise, or so I was told, anyway, by whom I do not recall.

Back in the 70's we had to account for every round we signed out for,one night some idiot stole an ammo can from the back of a Security Police truck at the chow hall, inside was 18 40mm HE grenades,It happened at RAF Woodbridge in England, they found the mpty ammo can on the road off base when a SP coming on duty saw somebody throw something out a car window, after hearing about the missing ammo. They had a composite pic of a suspect and the guy saw it on a guard shack and turned himself in,he had no idea what was in the can til he opened it,and then he buried them in a hole and tossed the can,he got 5 years in leavenworth and a Dishonorable discharge
