Were the two police officers involved carrying firearms at the time?

People have been killing each other with anything available sense the beginning of time, fire arms are just a new way to do it, point is take away the gun and murder will just keep happening one way or the other.

He deserves to be in jail! What kind of statement is that? Knives are bad, we just lost a New Castle County Officer due to a knife attack. If I see a knife, I'm going to shoot them.

While I totally disagree with the British approach and tactics, their officers going out to face the armed thuggery with nightsticks and no guns have to be some of the bravest people on earth. The powers that be are ludicrous in their standards. If the Bobby strikes a perp with the nightstick, he will be investigated as if he had shot them. The powers that be in Britain need to get a clue and let the Bobbies be properly equipped.

Unfortunately, in Britain Kilvinsky's Law has been abrogated.

On the upside they have ordered Tasers.

UK orders 10,000 Taser guns to arm police - CNN.com

And contrary to the article a Taser is not a "stungun". It is an ECD. A dart firing electronic control device.

The proper response to a knife however should always be a firearm if possible.

Maybe sidearms will be in the future as violence continues to escalate in the UK.

Even when "armed" with a Taser (or ECD), Bobbies may as well be armed with a RPRL (rubber-powered rock launcher) or LPPS (lung-propelled pea shooter) when they're frequently dealing with perps carrying real weapons - they're either terribly brave or terribly something else. Only serves to underscore the truth in the saying that "where guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have them".

If it wasn't for their brave unarmed cops, Britain would be even farther down the toilet.

    Red face

Why do they need guns for? All they need are high visibility jackets.
