Think of it as thinning the herd
Going to war in Iraq did one thing. It moved the terrorists target to attack from US soil to Iraq soil. Rather simple and predictable outcome.
How was this easily predictable? Well, logic dictates that we all have a limited amount of resources. Seeing as the majority of the groups that hate Americans and America are based in the middle east both financially and physically they could do more damage with less cost, and more effectiveness in Iraq than here. Simple matter of applying the same principles used in the basic structure of supply and demand (and I mean the base structure taught in high school).
Did it actually make America safer? No. Nothing will if we want to have freedom. Freedom comes with a price. Not everyone will pay a price for it, but some have to.
Irregardless of what many people think, freedom does not mean people will choose a wise course of action. Freedom, like the free will God gave his children (if you are christian), leads to people to do things as they see fit, and history has proven that some people often choose a path that causes harm to others. Americas prison population should be proof enough of that for the liberal leaning people, yet it is not. The good news is that most people choose to live and let live in a responsible manner.
