Turning by degrees
Just a short little "war story", brought back to mind by a comment in the Concealed Carry section.
Back in my AF days, I was sometimes a crewmember in a 4-engine big plane. In the back, we'd sometimes listen to the ship's interphone, keeping tabs on the what the front enders were up to.
We were on a northerly heading when the Naviguesser called out, "Pilot, come right to heading 270."
"Roger, right to heading 2 7....what the heck you up to, Nav?"
If you have to think about it, pull out a compass....

I carry always not because I go places trouble is likely, but because trouble has a habit of not staying in its assigned zone.

Sounds like a Nav I used to fly with on occasion, we called him TLC (Totally Lost and Confused).
When you have to shoot, shoot. Don't talk.

"A first rate man with a third rate gun is far better than the other way around". The gun is a tool, you are the craftsman that makes it work. There are those who say "if I had to do it, I could" yet they never go out and train to do it. (WETSU)

He might have been the one in my land-nav team at survival school. Though I heard it said it was always a bad idea to let Navs have the map and compass out there in the woods.

Ignorance is a long way from stupid, but left unchecked, can get there real fast.

While I did log a few hours in Herks, my platform was the RC-135U/V/W.
